Project Information

I've had this razor just hanging around and collection dust for nearly two years. Finally, after a bit of inspiration hit, I decided to try and restore it to its former glory. It turned out to be more work that I had expected but in the end, it is certainly worth it. When I decide to shave again, this will be my go-to weapon of choice.

Both the scales and brush handle are made from the same piece of stabilized Lace Maple burl. The brush is finished with a multitude of coats of CA and the scales are sealed with Tung oil.

Thank you all for looking.

I used to shave with one of those but when I went into the Army they took the damn thing away and made me get a safety razor. A double edged gillett. Used to nick myself all the time with that damned contraption (never cut myself even once with the straight razor). When I got out of the Army I quit shaving entirely, be afraid to try it with a straight razor any more. Probably slice off my ear or cut my throat.

I just finished my commitment with the U.S Army this year and I too swore off the clean shaven look. Something about having to shave twice a day to keep my skin smooth that just makes you dislike it so much. I decided to revive this razor just for my neckline and throat area (and to put some of my smaller burl pieces to work). Though it is a bit unnerving at first, it becomes second nature and you get to keep your skin intact.

This project also allowed me to further develop my skills with a file and rasp as I've come to sing the praises of hand tools lately. Now my collection of belt sanders, grinders and such, sit quietly by whilst I toil away at the vise end of my bench.

Charles, thank you. The maker is Wade and Butcher (my all time favorite vintage brand). This beauty is one heck of a shaver, I have a coarse beard and it goes though it like peach fuzz.
