This is a review not only of a tool but of the customer service that backs it. HNT Gordon makes wooden body hand planes. To anyone who frequents Lumberjocks that is unlikely to be news. The planes are what you would expect, beautiful to look at, comfortable to hold, a joy to use. Also probably not news. My shop space has a concrete floor. I’m ok with the concrete, it is easy to clean and easy to roll my tools around. But it is KILLER on my feet and back. I have flat feet, you know the kind that when you walk barefoot they make a sucking sound when you pick your feet up. Like most of you guys and gals, when I get a chance to run out into the shop off I skedaddle. If I do think ahead I change into my grubby jeans and tee shirt, if I don’t think ahead I start working in whatever good clothes I’m wearing. And probably like most of you when my hands get dirty, or if I get glue on my fingers, or finish, or whatever, I just wipe them on my jeans, or shirt tail, whatever piece of cloth that is handy. Well, it was sharpening time again this weekend, chisels, plane irons, kitchen knives, pocket knives, scissors, turning gouges and chisels, anything else I could find that had an edge that needed sharpening. I’ve hand sharpened all of my knives and tools using wet, dry, oil, and diamond stones for the last 20 years. Bench stones works pretty well and I’m able to get shaving quality edges every time.
