Speaking of low moral character..... - 18 replies
I don’t know how many of you sell online, but I just wanted to alert everyone to an issue I just discovered. There is a guy running a web site called exoticsavannahwoodworks. I found him using a picture of one of my listed Etsy lazy susans and representing it on his eCommerce site for sale in different sizes. He also copied my Etsy text descr...

Mama Always Told Me Not To Talk To Strangers - 18 replies
You don’t get to my age without having picked up a few wounds in the back from being too good-natured. I guess I just trust people a little too much and occasionally, when I’m not looking, here comes another knife in the back. I first started making these dovetailed post office box banks about 10 years ago for my wife to give as gifts. It w...

Cleaning Day! - 10 replies
I have a lot of empty post office bank boxes that need doors. My dilemma is that I have plenty of doors, but none of them are prepped to mount on the boxes. These doors come to me covered in grime, green oxidation, rust, stuck hinges, and hard to turn lock mechanisms. I would prefer to get a root canal than have to clean doors, but I’v...

Fall Traditions - 4 replies
The air is finally getting crisp down here in Georgia and Fall is in the air. Our two favorite past times are right around the corner. It’s time to get the outdoor fire pit ready for those late night social gatherings with my buddies. And there’s nothing like sighting in the yardages for the upcoming deer season from my favori...

Just in Case You are a Senior and Get a Check for $250… By end of this year, seniors will again receive an Economic Stimulus payment. This is a very exciting program. I’ll explain it using the Q and A format:——————————-————-——R...

Wood Gloat - 11 replies
My lumber supplier received 6 pallets of Oregon big leaf maple this week. Everything is mostly cutoffs and range in size from 12” to 36”+. Some have bark inclusions and voids, but most have a lot of usable clear wood. All of the wood is highly figured quilt which I have never seen anywhere in Atlanta. I just spent an hour over th...

Flame Out! - 7 replies
I am starting a new project to build a 19 foot long entertainment center. I went over to my lumber supplier this morning to get a truck load of paint grade maple to make the face frames. Their paint grade maple is super cheap and if dig through the pallet pile enough I usually find nice clear pieces. I was digging, pulling out 12 foot pieces,...

My Saturday - 2 replies
It was a brisk 38 degrees yesterday morning as a couple friends and I gathered to make firewood out of a 150 year old red oak. This thing fell over on a friend’s property and she wants it gone, so we dragged a hydraulic splitter over there and started working. Six hours and a half a fifth of Jack Daniels later, we hadn’t made so much as a de...

More Show Stuff - 11 replies
Well, I just finished up another show which surpassed all the others again. People are out, spending money now which is making up for the dismal slow first half of the year. This show in Tennessee was rainy and/or cold all three days, but it didn’t deter the customers. I ran out of many products and I only have three days to get some in...

It Just Keeps Getting Better - 6 replies
This past weekend tells me that people are finally starting to spend money again. After a dismal year of shows, my last two shows have resulted in stellar sales. This weekend was partially rained out on Saturday, but still finished strong on Sunday to make it my best one this year. I think the game is back on!!

A hiccup in the space time continuum - 8 replies
I don’t know if it is a fluke, but the show I did last weekend dispelled the notion that we are in a recession. Myself, as well as most crafters and artists I have talked to, have experience an almost total shut down this year in sales. Our expectations are so low right now, that we are happy if we break even. I did a show this past weekend...

I got this email today from a guy today claiming intellectual design infringement on, I guess, one of my cutting board styles. I’ve never heard of this company so I went out and looked at his web site and some of his boards look like one of mine. In fact, according to his email, he says I can’t use all walnut for a cutting board? ...

Craft Show This Weeked - 1 reply
If any Atlanta jocks are looking for something to do this weekend, I will be in booth 12 at the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival. Grab your umbrella and stroll on over. I will be the one wearing a full rain suite. It’s suppose to be nasty Saturday.

Maybe it's me, but.... - 16 replies
I went to two different Home Depot stores today and I swear there were more employees in the stores than customers. It was real creepy. I couldn’t walk from one end to the other without someone asking if they could help me every 20 feet. It’s like running a gauntlet. The only place I could get away from them was in the bathroom.

Happy Turkey Day!! - 7 replies
I finally got away from the shop and have a four day break from sawdust and business stuff. It’s wonderful being back in East Tennessee and looking out the window of my Dad’s house at the Smokey Mountains. Why I left this paradise for Atlanta will always remain a mystery to me. I hope every one has a wonderful break and don̵...
