Part 1: Pack Them In

04-09-2011 12:47 AM by closetguy | 7 comments »

What a great business! I get to spend time in my shop making widgets while listening to Led Zeppelin. When done, I take pictures, post them on a web site, and sit back and watch the money pour in. Yep, it should to be that simple. The reality is that selling online is a little more challenging than one would think. A lot of people make the mistake of placing their widgets online and going on a walkabout for a few months. They come back, check their traffic, and wonder why no one has ...

Part 2: Take the Plunge With Etsy

04-09-2011 03:59 AM by closetguy | 4 comments »

There are many different sites to sell on and I’ve tried a few. None have ever provided the exposure and sales that I get from Etsy. There is Artfile, Handmadecatalog, Shophandmade, and Dawanda (European online crafts), to mention a few of the hundreds that are out there. 04-13-2011 02:26 AM by closetguy | 10 comments »

I have to confess, being an older guy, I would have never had anything to do with Facebook if it wasn’t for my kids and family. Since they are scattered all over the place, Facebook is the only way I can keep in touch, see Nephews and Nieces as they grow up, and socialize with people I grew up with. It amazes me how much activity goes on with just the people in my friend and family list. I’m also bad about taking a picture of snow outside our house and posting it on Facebook my everyone to...

Part 5: Promoting With Etsy and Others

05-29-2011 01:48 AM by closetguy | 3 comments »

Etsy has a lot of its own promotion capability right on their site. 1. Showcase – This is where you purchase a spot and it is shown at the top of the page under the appropriate category. It shows on the page as a “sponsored” item.2. Treasury – This a member-curated list of 16 items that a member creates based on their interests. It does not contain their shop items. It also rotates and will show up at least once on the main Etsy page.3. Etsy Picks – This is items that the Etsy ...
