I just started a career as a structural engineer. Bridges have always fascinated me and it has really been a treat to work on designing and testing bridges. I have always been interested in woodworking, machining, and fabrication as well as the designing of what I would be working on. Until college, I had access to my dad's wood shop in our basement and periodically my grandfather's wood shop. When I got to college I joined an engineering club where each year the team started from scratch and designed and built an off-road racecar. I learned most of my metalworking skills from machining and welding different parts on those cars. In the past year I got more interested in bowl making and also made my own carbide lathe tool using a bought carbide insert. My shop currently consists of one half of a one car garage that I share with my roommate. It is crowded as there is a 2500 pound mill, motorcycles, and numerous tools but we make it work.
