first of all I hate to join this blog and then ask a question. but I can’t find any info anywhere else.
I got this Makita 2040 planer for a couble of years now and I got new rollers right after I bought it use. Its has been cutting fine in till a few days ago it started slipping as I feed the cedar lumber through it, I’ve sharping the blades, wax the feed table and even tighten down the rollers a bit. But when it slips it makes a knocking sound that worries me.. Can’t figure it out. Can some one help/?

Clean the rollers. Maybe try paint thinner.

Planer feed rollers are typically driven by a chain-and-sprocket
which may need maintenance or repair.

Loren thanks for the info. I did clean the rollers and try it again this time I it quit turning all together. So I took the gear box apart and there lay one of the sprockets. I hoping that this is the noise maker and it finally broke. I order another hope to get it a week ( Maybe) I’ll let you know..

Well I got my gear shaft in yesterday and was just about finish with getting it back together when I notice the shaft on one of the feed rollers was also broke.

Now all of that slipping make since. Look all over to see if I could just get the shaft and send it to get it reroll. no luck—- cheapest I found was 237 $for one of those old yellow Makita rollers.. So went to a welder and got turn down. he said it would just break again

So I went ahead and JB weld it and see what happens. who knows it mite work I dout it but for 7 bucks I’ll try it.

Have your say...
