Out trying to finish Christmas shopping and stumbled across a deal I think was too good to pass up. Delta 12.5 inch planer for $40.56 on clearance, regular price was north of $200. Don’t know if its all Lowes or not, my location only had 3, one display & two still sealed in the box. I got one still in the box. Never had a planer before, please tell me I got a good deal, but if you happen to have one (model # TP305), fill me in on it. I’ll wait to even take it out of the box for your feedback. If it’s crap, I may be able to make a couple bucks on e-bay. I just figured for $40….............. They also had a jointer (6” I think) for about the same price.

Helluva good deal! I know that when I worked for Lowe’s they would put on-hand stock on clearance when corporate sent down messages that a particular item was to be clearanced due to an up-coming model change or that we were no longer going to carry the brand or item.
I would guess that this is the situation you found yourself in. Delta is probably upgrading the model or has chosen to no longer produce that particular model and the company wants to clear the shelves.
Enjoy it, you lucky dog!

They are apparentlly producing approximately the same model under the Porter Cable label, and are closing out the Delta item. The price has dropped before, those are probably some of the last around.

great deal on the planer! congratulations.
... the jointer on the other hand leave much to be desired (if you are referring to the table top aluminum delta jointer that is)

It’s a good deal but lets put your investment concerns to a comparison. If you like wine as I do you’ll probably be buying a nice Riesling or two, a bottle of nice Sherry and maybe some Baileys Creme for the wife, spending over $90.
You’ll spend more on drink this holiday than that planer and what will you have the day after?

The TP305 is a single speed and not top of the line. However, Amazon currently has them for close to 300. Most of the reviews were decent. Not the high end planer, but not a piece of junk either. Just to put things in perspective, I spent 300 on a Jet jointer/planer bench combo that is 8inches. You would have gotten both planer and jointer for 100. The jointer would not be perfect, but for 50 bucks, um, yeah. Heck of a deal and you will definitely get your money’s worth.

It’s not a bad planer, and you got a screaming deal on it. I believe the dust collection hood is an extra cost option though. I would suggest you get it, planers shoot out a LOT of chips….

Thats a better deal than I got….I just purchased the same planer at Lowe’s the other day for $163.00, they show to be going for $250.00 to $299.00 on the internet. I have opened it and used it already and it works great. Had to adjust the in feed and out feed tables but other than that it has been great.

I paid $125 for the same one on clearance at Lowe’s in late Oct. and it was the last one in stock, they already had the new PC planer on display. It looks identical to me except the cosmetics.

I bought the DeWalt. I’ve always had good experiences with their products. But, as with all woodworking tools and machines, success is in the set-up. Make sure the beds are set correctly and that the work is supported over most of its length. That will minimize “snipe”. Anyway…you got a great deal and lots of good advice!! Go for it and have fun!!
