The start

YES. I am building my own workshop….....had plans to move old barn, that fell through. The site I have found is a friends property. It already had a cement pad 24×32 . The original building is no longer there. I started 3 days ago.
I am thinking I can build the shell for very low dollars. I salvaged metal from a hail storm. 34 ft sheets for $34. Works out to about 1/3 cost of new metal in this part of Canada.
The design is a horse barn style. 16 ft slope along north to 12 ft peak, then 8 ft slope to front.

Back wall is 7 ft high.
Front wall 8ft high.
Inside under highest beam 12ft high.
On the right side of building I need 8ft opening for my tool trailer. Had to redsign roof a bit. This should give me a 10ft wide by 9ft high door. I also came out another 8 ft in this part.
Insulation and interior might be next year.

At least I will be outta the rain and SNOW !

Nice design and a great find on the metal. It looks like you are using a fair amount of reclaimed material for the exterior walls too. Great progress for the first 3 days of work, you will have the snow beat by months at this rate.

PART TWO

Sky Plant Wood Tree Lumber

Sky Plant Wood Shade Composite material

Sky Wood Shade Beam Composite material

Was hoping to have all the tin on and the purlins on roof.
DID NOT Happen !
Rained all day yesterday. Tried 5 different times and got soaked each time !
250lbs of OLD MAN soaking wet is NOT a pretty site!
Today was sunny.
WINDY as ever…....of course.
Managed some small sheets of tin.
Finished rafters…....almost ! 1 2×6x9' SHORT.
During the wind this morning I was bracing a little more than planned. Guess I used one 2Ă—6 for that !
Hopefully tomorrow is nice….....AND I NEED help. 32ft sheets are awkward alone !

Number Four

More progress today.
Finished roof over drive entrance.
Almost finished roof on south side.
Partial finished one gable end.
Put all the roof on so far ALONE…..slow…..start one corner, climb another ladder to line up rib, then work way down…..
Tomorrow getting young help for long stuff. He is a student I used this summer. Good working young man.
Forecast is RAIn for weekend….need to get this done ! All my other work in area is on hold till I get my space .
There will be lots to do later. Wiring, insulation, inside, etc. Main focus now is roof and walls.

Day 5

Weather cooperated today. Slight breeze, okay to hang tin. Kid showed up after school. 3:30 to 6:30 we had the north side on ! The boy was good ! Helped BIG TIME.
I have few small pieces to finish. East wall gable end. TRIM. Buying the corners and ridge cap is more money than all the tin !
Since I already have hail dents I think I will take the time and cut trim.
I went inside to clean up tonight.
With the roof on…....its DARK inside….lol
Tonight I am overtired. Climbing for past 5 days…..

Great progress! Are you not having any windows or openings at all? or are you cutting them later, I am not surprised it is dark inside as it stands.

ow and thats it.
YIKES. How did I manage to get so many?
I tend to be a hoarder when it comes to tools.
7 table saws.
3 from Ontario (where I lived for several years)
3 from ALberta where I also lived for 12 years
1 from SASK, where I started my business 1976.
They are all sitting there ….....there is a BUZZ on I think !
Everything worked on paper. Now that I have new building and actually placing them
