Picked up my lodgepole pine posts from a orchard this morning. They bring in LOT sizes for there tree’s.(10ft. x 2” dia.) I drove by thinking I wonder if they sell them, they are the size I use for my log chairs and patio furniture. I had been buying larger diameter posts from Lumber yard and splitting them into 1/3 then running them through my “homemade dowel maker.”
Was a lot of extra work and wasted a fair amount of material.(Fun the first day, then it became work !)
When I made my own, the extra time didn’t matter, now people want some, time is a factor. While I was loading my posts I asked the lady what they do with scraps. They had pallet fulls of short material from crates, pallets, etc.She said they destroy most of it. Because it accumulates so fast. I asked if I might pick it up. She grinned and told me IF you make “me” a bird house with it , you can have it. She was going to get her son to sort through all of it and bundle it for me. PRICE was right, I am going back to pick it up.
If it is stacked properly it will FILL the back of pickup truck.
I mean how hard can it be to build a birdhouse ?
In all my years remodelling, cabinets, toys BUT NEVER a birdhouse…......YET.
