I am the daughter of a marine woodworker who refurbished and maintained classic wooden boats. At 6 years old I had my own workbench with my own tools because my dad took me to the boatyard often to sand, drill, chisel, and reach where his large hands couldn't. I have 2 sons - one who went straight out of highschool into making beautiful custom-designed furniture, (using woods from many countries, and doing laminated inlays and dyed, colorful burls) and one who did likewise to earn money while going to art school. Their latest project has been developing a perfect outdoor pool table with a special cover against the elements. I've always been surrounded by excellent woodworkers - the father of "our" children rehabbed one of those greystones (3-story apartment buildings) in Chicago with beautifully finished built-ins. Alas - I am only a professional photogirl and watercolorist. Love this website.
