Speakers

I’ve been building speakers for most of my life. It’s what led me into woodworking. Sadly, I don’t have a lot to show for it. I’ve either sold or given away every set I’ve ever built with only one exception, the set I’m currently running. Even worse, from a woodworking perspective, they’re pretty sad. Made entirely of MDF and finished with rattle-can stone finish paint, they aren’t pretty.

I’m planning to rectify this situation. My next set will still be made from MDF, but I’m planning to veneer them with something striking. Of course, there’s the current project that must first be completed, the kitchen cabinets that I’m making.

Since I’m a weekend woodworker, this has taken quite some time, but the end is in sight. I’ll post some pictures when I’m done.

But, having said that, I would encourage my fellow woodworkers to build speakers. It’s not all that hard and the results can be really incredible. Best yet, you can save some serious money. I’ve posted the instructions and plans for my latest design on my website: www.audio.thesonicboomers.com.

I welcome all comments and will strive to answer any questions.
