Building the NYWS chair. Using Cypress from Crossroads Sawmill in Land of Lakes, Florida. Planed it down today and letting it dry some. I picked it up yesterday in the rain, but what a better way to waste an afternoon right? I’ll post pictures as the project comes along.

So you are allowed to build this project inside the house? I see that bag next to the planer is probably dust and chips but the carpet looks flawless. I dont see a dust collector other than the upright vacuum?

My wife would throw a fit if I walked into the house from the shop without dusting myself off first. What’s yer secret?

The bedroom is empty for now and I put down a drop cloth (old shower curtain) and besides that I’m trying to figure out a way to sale these projects for some extra money in the bank and she’s all about that, if you know what I mean. Now having said all that, it’s a work in progress and I know the difficulties in earning any money from a small time low budget set up like me but I enjoy the heck out of making anything out of wood so it’s all good no matter the overall outcome. We owned a home up north but lost it to foreclosure and I think she just feels a little sorry because I lost my shop out in the garage and I’m sure that has something to do with it to. later 6 string.

Taking the weekend off so my neighbors won’t get upset with me making noise from my little apartment workshop. During the week I only saw and plane during 12 noon to 3pm to keep the piece as well. I learned this valuable little lesson laying floors back in Ohio many years ago. I arrived at a new home build at 6:30am on a sunday and it was the last home in the subdivision being built. The guy next door was an over the road trucker and just got back from the road and was trying to sleep. Long story short he threatened to shoot me if he heard anymore noise. NO brainer there.

New wood was a little wetter than I thought, but what in this world ever really goes as planed. I learned the difference between sapwood and heartwood on this project. I’ve been rotating the wood now for 2 days in front of a fan and it appears to be drying well. I included a picture of the Jake Chair I built mainly because I’m really bored right now.

Wood finally dried out enough to begin this project. Got all the curved cuts, routing and sanding done today. Tomorrow finish cutting the easy parts and assembly.
