...for the wife to get me going on another project. I swear she stays awake half the night thinking up things for me to do. I no sooner got the wall units finished when I found myself up to my knees in 2×10s. I’ve started the new deck.
I actually started the framing yesterday – but I started seeing that something was seriously wrong as I went along. I was trying to square off a section and just couldn’t do it. After about 2 hours I decided to do some measurning that I hadn’t done yet… and found the problem. 2 of the 2×10’s were short of 8 feet by about 2 1/2”. I never cut these before I put them down. This has never happened to me before. And of course they would have to be the two out of about 15 of them that I picked. I lost most of the afternoon trying to figure it out.
In any event, I was going about it all wrong. The right way of doing it came to me this morning as I was sitting all nice and quiet with a cup of coffee. Isn’t it strange how an idea about a better way of doing something can come along and just smack you off the side of the head? I have this fantastic book that I bought last winter at Lee Valley… on how to build a deck. I guess it would have been too hard for me to look through it again before I started.
I won’t be getting any work done on them tomorrow – it’s supposed to rain… right into the weekend. However, this doesn’t mean that I’ll get any down time. She bought a new bathroom sink and… . Like I said… she just thrives on thinking up new jobs for me to do.
