Finishing Walnut

I am working on the cradle project and have started to think of finishes. What are the best methods that will bring out the beautiful color of the walnut and have the finish last for years to come? I appreciate any and all suggestions, if you could include pictures of walnut pieces you have finished that would be great.

Thanks

Black walnut

I am building a cradle and am using black walnut for the first time. A friend indicated that glueing will be a issue. To accomplish this, He said that a bleeching foam would be needed. This will help in finishing as well. I have never heard of this and would all inputs pro or con. Thanks

rough lumber

I know have all the lumber that I need for the project and more than enough wood.
The question I have is when dealing with ten year old air dried wood, is thier a preffered time of the year to build with it? Should I bring the wood indoors? Should moisture be a concern? I will not have any panels to deal with and the widest I am going to have is about ten inches. I am building a cradle.

I am building a cradle for a friend from rough walnut. I would like to know if thier is a general rule for the amount of I need. Is it 10, 20 or 50% extra for waste or is does it very to much from lot to lot? Is thier a way of telling how much colour in it before milling.

routers

What are your thoughts on a router? I have a Craftsman 1/4 inch shank that has been used lightly for 5-6 years. I just purchased a 1/4 slot bit that is about 1 1/2 in diameter. It vibrates to much to use. Going forweard,I am thinking I need a new one. I think that I should go with a 1/2 inch shank.
What price range and wheather or not to go to a big bloc store are my concerns.
Any thoughts or expierences are welcome.

I am beginning to set up a small wood shop on limited budget. Thier are two used table saws that cought my eye. One is a King with round guides for the fence, 2 hp 220 motor about 10 – 12 years old. The other is a Rigid, 1 hp larger working surface and I think a better fence. It is about 5 years old.
What is more important, the fence and guide or the size of the motor?
