I was at Lowes buying some evaporative cooler parts today, and stopped by the hardwood section for a look. Low and behold, this maple board with beautiful curly/rippled figuring throughout was just laying on top of the stack. It’s a little cupped over the ~10’ length, but not bad. Here are a couple pictures of it, though the lighting is poor:

Rare to find any interesting wood at the big box stores. I’ll try to find a good use for it.

That’s a nice piece of wood!

Sometimes bLowe’s and Borg make mistakes like that…. too bad I’m never there when it happens!

That will NEVER happen at our big box stores (and if it does, I’ll miss it!). Good score.

I just calculated it out, and it comes to a little under $8 per board foot. Kind of expensive compared to the lumber yard, really, but it is a nice piece of wood and a surprising find. It is sort of s4s, though the planing one one side has a lot of chip outs at the ripples so the final usable pieces will be smaller.

Nice find. Maybe you should have bought a lottery ticket today too ;-))
