I am relatively new around here and thought I would share something I find useful. I have built a webpage that employs google’s site searching code and allows you to do google searches that searches only woodworking sites.
The site is : http://sandbox.wgcinc.com/Wood/GoogWoodSearch.nsf/Start?Open
The site is very simple, just select the type of search you are interested in (Suppliers, information, or Plans)
Type in your search criteria just as you would any google search. The difference is that you will get results only from sites dedicated to Woodworking. (Amazon.com is an exception in the Suppliers area)
I have no idea if anybody else will find this useful; but I certainly enjoy getting just the types of hits I am looking for.
Since this is a testing site my employer owns, I have added some links related to our non-woodworking offerings, just in case somebody might find those services useful.
Give it a whirl. Let me know what you think. Depending on whether there is any real interest, I am open to adding sites people think would be valuable additions and perhaps new categories of searching.
Again, the site is at http://sandbox.wgcinc.com/Wood/GoogWoodSearch.nsf/Start?Open

Thank you! I’ve already searched infrared heaters using it. My garage is cold and I just need warmth over the bench.
Merry Christmas to you too!

I don’t get it. It doesn’t seem to work. I put in “Maple” as an example and all I got were hits for “Maple leaf rag” on Youtube.
Then clicked on the plans link and put in “Box” and got results for cardboard shipping boxes and UPS. What is the point?

A very unique creation. many thanks for the access to it.
It takes a little getting used to and obviously not for everyone.

Blake, I agree ‘Maple’ won’t get you much of interest . I do get better hits than you describe with ‘box under Plans. If you try ‘Maple lumber’ or ‘Maple finishing’ you should get better results.
This is definitely an attempt to achieve addition by subtraction. You will not hits with this tool that you would not get with a standard google search. And there well could be some hits you could have received that are missed because so many sites are not searched.
So like a Japanes hand saw, we may not use it each time we head to the shop. But there may be other times when it can solve a speciific problem or save some time.
