I have been turning for a short time, about a year and some change. In this time I have learned that my neighbors are my best suppliers of wood. When they cut down trees I come a running. This last summer I got some big Ash logs and lots of Maple. Now that it is “winterish” I’m trying to turn all this lumber into bowls and boxes. I start by getting the wood. Usually I will put it in the back of my SUV if it’s just one or two little logs but if it a bunch of wood I have a 4×8 trailer. Then I chain saw the logs down the pith and wax the ends. I store them in my shed till I get around to them. I am still learning all this so this blog will be my record of what I have done so in the future I can be a more efficient turner.
