Since posting my work on Lumberjocks, I have received a huge number of requests for help and advice on the building of powder horns and doing the scrimshaw artwork to decorate the horn. And, honestly, I can’t really help everyone, as I have to work in the shop myself, so I have accepted an invitation to teach a Powder Horn Building and Scrimshaw Decoration Class at the John Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. The date will be mid-July in 2012, and it is planned for a five day cla...
—————————————— UPDATE 3-28-2012:After Posting my Casket Stories and Photos, I have been overwhelmed by the response from readers. There is quite a thread of folks wanting to help in their funeral plans by building their own casket, or building one for a close friend or family member. All of this internet attention lead me to a teaching invitation at the John Campbell Folk School in the summer of 2011 on t...

They have a video on their website. http://www.rjrstudios.com/ I have also seen a very similar kit for sale that allows you to build your own drum sander that is identical to the sand flee. It is here. http://www.stockroomsupply.com/ Both sites have nice video, and they both seem to operate the same way with hook and loop paper. They work by using the paper rising up off the drum through centrifugal force. I like this ide...

Previously, I showed how I formed and sanded the profile on the last blog of this topic, and so today I thought I would complete the task by showing the installation of the molding, and a few “gems” I discovered along the way. First off, I made very sure that my cabinet that I am hanging this crown molding on was as perfectly square on...
My wife is gone for a few hours this Saturday morning, and the kids are busy watching a video, so I will update you on what I am working on now. I’m right in the middle of a “fun” project. It is “fun” on many levels, mostly because I have had to stop and scratch my head a lot. For those of you with kids, or remember having kids, or know someone who has kids, Winnie the Pooh always says, “Think, think, think” while poking his temple when he is try...
