Vacation ignorance

2093 days ago by Woodbutchery | 2 comments »

Just spent the last two weeks on vacation (I get a ton of it, and I can only roll-over so much of it), and I spent much of it on small projects around the house (see my 1st three project entries). Sometime yesterday I figured that I was just ignurnt about vacation-time, which a lot of people use to get away from doing things. Yet, here I was, straightening up the workshop, working on jigs, fixing up kitchen spaces … some people call it work. So why do I feel rested? I put it dow...

Colors of Shellac from a Kayak ….where art thou going oh gods of kayaking,“i go out in the tops of mountain ponds”,who is the one that you paddle along with by your side,“i paddle with the love of my heart who longs with me….” ”—-and so i turned the page to write again some words of wood—-” ....and so the gods came down to play amongst a colored backdrop, completed with water that still holds dreams of blue liquid desire,...

Mirrors from my Website blog #3: So What's Wrong With Being a Luddite, Anyway?

2110 days ago by Texasgaloot | 5 comments »

Warning: the following is written in my blog’s wierd, arcane style… read at your own risk. Once again the literary blog of Chris Schwartz has stimulated my own (somewhat cranked) chain of consciousness toward the philosophical side of woodworking. “The Schwartz” recently offered a very positive review of Roy Underhill’s newest book (the link is here), which wasn’t fair because I can’t go out and buy it yet, and pre-ordering it only makes me feel like I’m 8 years old and it’s t...

2114 days ago by Etsy | 3 comments »

This is a video produced by my multi-talented Etsian colleague Eric Beug. In addition to producing, shooting and editing the video he also composed the score. Check it out!Process is a new Etsy video series that features the intimate relationship formed between Etsy sellers and the handmade items that they create and make available to the world through their online shops. Process is not to be confused with a How-To video, as each video is intended to show each seller’s unique artistic v...

Off-Topic: Social Networking

2122 days ago by ahpeditor | 8 comments »

I’m a woodworker. I’m also an editor working for a company that publishes woodworking content. So I want to start with this disclaimer. My personal posts to the website have nothing whatsoever to do with my employer. All comments are my own. Period. Now the important stuff. My first post isn’t about woodworking. It happens to be about social networking and sites like this and how they can help good, worthy causes. Let me explain. This morning when I logged onto my comp...

Hi, my name is John and I am a Tool Junkie #1: Grizzly Tent Sale - Muncy PA - Sept 13, 2008

2125 days ago by John | 9 comments »

Where can you buy 1000 (full size) sheets of (nice, waterproof) sandpaper for $1.00? Those were the first things to go; I managed to grab 2 boxes in the frenzy, one box of 150 grit, one of 280… Need a sheet? let me know! At 8:00 Saturday morning, Grizzly Industrial’s annual tent sale in Muncy PA opened their doors. I thought I would check this thing out, and actually got there 15 minutes early thinking I would take a look around before the crowds showed up at 10:00 or so…...

The Non-Electric Chair #3: The Island

2159 days ago by lethentymill | 1 comment »

The “Island” is the land that accompanies Lethenty Mill. It stretches from its widest part at the Mill to its narrowest about half a mile up the Lochter Burn. It used to be very important to the Mill; water was collected in a long narrow channel leading to a dam near the Mill, and it could be released into a variety of channels under and around the Mill which were arranged to feed the water to the two water wheels or back into the water course (the Lochter) if the system was full and li...
