Hello Lumberjocks!
My name is KC (said Casey, but short for Kansas City), and I’m super stoked to have finally signed up for site privileges. I’ve perused this site for some time now, and have recently begun to view Lumberjocks in tandem with my other forum that I’m a member of. I figure it’s only natural to be a member of both!
I’m a small business owner of a custom carpentry company in the Tidewater area of Virginia, but as of late the economy finds me doing more handyman type...

I am just getting into Joinery and I was looking for programs that offer Joinery. There is a school that offers Joinery in my area (from what I was told that is rare enough) and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on if its worth it to go here.Quite an investment I must say.I was looking at http://www.teachwoodworking.com and they have links to the programs I was looking at attending. Thanks in advance for your help.

About 4 days before Christmas, I started making a nice little picture frame for a custom piece of art I had made up for Nicole. A gift for a special girl requires some special wood. So I pulled out my best sheets of curly maple veneer and a couple of sheets of home-sawn afzelia wood (thanks for link Logan!) that I received from David Marks. You may find it odd that I decided to use solid maple as the substrate for the frame. I thought this would be a fun experiment, and when the rabbets ar...

I have spent a little time thinking about Video and Audio Podcasting.
I am Slightly Shy in both aspects of Video and Audio. But I have been working on this shiness by overcoming it in Video and Audio Podcast.
I have decided that, As long as I get my point across, others learn from my audio and video, then I am more satified with it then what I look like no matter how goofy or entertaining I may or may not be or even as boring as I may be, information, demonstrations and how-tos are a v...

Hi Everyone!
The Starbucks table has been delivered and set up. I thought I’d post the pics of everything in place. Also, it looks like I’ve got the job of designing and building a matching coffee table…turns out my customer purchased a set of four different style Starbucks tops from Ebay! So, coming soon…”The Starbuck’s Coffee Coffee Table”
Enjoy!
And here’s the throw rug that inspired the whole design…

Well, we are finally done! The entertainment center is ready to be shipped.
The piece features adjustable shelves, a false panel back to hide all wiring, and that funny looking little stand on top.
The stand is for a center channel speaker for the surround sound system. I needed a way to cover the hole that was in the original top so I designed this stand to allow the center speaker to rotate left to right and adjust up or down to aim the sound as required.
Hope you guys and gi...

The timber is still moist to the touch and heavy, probably about 28% moisture, but it will be easier to cut in this condition and will dry quickly with a smaller cross-section. It is time to rough-cut the components. You may remember that I have already selected and prepared pieces for the main members – the back legs.
All this hand-work makes you think of efficiency in a way that you may never have thought of it before. If you have ever cycled around the countryside and taken a wrong t...

I’m trying to keep it all in the family, and it seems to make sense, at least to a degree. You see, in an effort to take a part of my woodworking business to the internet, I decided to pick up a pen turning lathe, a bunch of kits, and some padauk and rosewood. Good start, then I could get a feel for it, and perhaps hone my business skills. I shared all this great thinking with my bride, who thought it was great thinking and was therefore intrigued by the whole idea. Little did I know…
