This is a video I made to promote my turning sales, but I think that my fellow woodturners and woodworkers will enjoy it as well. Ooop! Almost forgot the disclaimer: WARNING: Woodturning can—is—highly addictive. Brian Havens, The Fallen Tree, and any and all of their associates cannot be held liable for any lost wages, lost time, lost income, rehabilitation costs, spousal disputes, or any other damages resulting from anyone becoming a woodturner as a result of watching this video...
I found figuring out how to make these ornaments quite a fun challenge. (I already posted this video in my projects, but apparently that does not get it onto the LumberJocks Video Page) http://lumberjocks.com/projects/57125#comment-1116565
Sorry folks for the hiatus. Been a hectic beginning to the New Year but not entirely unproductive. Towards the ending of last year, an announcement was made that the company I work for has been sold to a company in India. This has caused me to reflect a little on life, evaluate my future, and come to terms with the fact that I have made the transition to my middle aged years. Most of this will be fodder for another blog. In the interim, I spent a little bit of time working on my turnings. ...
Pencil Tip 3! Another method of pencil sharpening. Thank you Gatorjim for the idea! I hope that you enjoy watching.
The last post left with some work to be completed on the piece before dismount. I wanted to work the edge of the bowl a little thinner and I did some aggressive stock removal on the interior and exterior edge. This left me with the bowl here. and here I did a little more work on the side to remove the somewhat boat like appearance and give it more curve. I cut the bowl off the lathe and began running through the grits of sanding. I have more trouble spots to touch up on that wil...
I woke up this morning and when I let my shop buddy out for her morning search for ‘that perfect spot’ to take care of her doggie business and I found a huge limb broken out of the big maple tree near my front walk. The pictures are a little dark because the Sun was just rising when I took the pictures. I’ve been cleaning it up and while I’m resting I’ll write this blog entry before I finish cleaning it up. This maple tree was planted when my 2 story ...
Here is a video showing how I rough turn wood blanks for lidded boxes on the lathe from wet wood. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klYnaje3vqQ&feature=share&list=UUU_N6BtSICI7yMMvubPFSlw Sorry, the embed isn’t working for this video but the link works.
Here is a video of turning a goblet made from English Walnut. It is for my newborn son.
How often have you dined at a restaurant and the waiter or waitress asked you “Would you would like some cracked peppers with your meal?” Probably more than once, right? If you’re like me I answer “Sure. I’d love some.” There’s just something nice about having a good meal with freshly ground salt and pepper. For a long time I have browsed through my various woodworking catalogs and noticed mechanisms for salt and peppermills. Then one day I decided to order the mechanisms and make a se...
Good Afternoon all. Been awhile since I could get on here. Aside from my work schedule, my wife experienced the trauma of having to vacate her apartment due to a fire that broke out in a neighboring apartment. Building is shot with a few apartments totally decimated. Fortunately, hers was not destroyed and the majority of her things salvageable. I had to help her move her things into storage and she is staying with her folks until she finds a new place. Nobody was injured and all pets were...
