Hi Folks, Welcome to the first installment of the Lumberjocks.com Cyber Skill Share. Please read the Lumberjocks Forum for information on this concept, sit back, and turn the bottom of a bowl. This series will also include hollowing, sanding, finishing, turning tools, and some sharpening. Any feedback is greatly appreciated as we, the lumberjocks community, refine this concept! Thanks! How much should I sell this Lathe for?

1733 days ago by Rick Boyett | 14 comments »

Over the past few days, I’ve been shopping around on Craigslist for a new Jointer. I actually ran across a great looking 8” Grizzly jointer but then I realized I really don’t have any room for it in my garage. My wife and I agreed that the garage must have enough room to allow one car to be parked in case of a hail storm (which is fairly common in Texas). Well, today I was rethinking my shop. I’ve got this BIG Delta 46-715 14” lathe. Its a fantastic lathe ...

This man is one of the most talented wood turners I have met.. I am holding one of Sam’s turnings, a soccer ball, in my hand… Many have turned some beautiful work, but only a few have taken segmented turning into the 3D world… Just a few more pics.. ...

Making Wooden Rings #1: The Basics, with solid rings.

1624 days ago by Tribalwind | 12 comments »

OK, This is by no means an expert guide to making rings, as I’m only in week-1 of making them ! .but right now here is what i do, this is fairly comprehensive tutorial for a beginner (and by a beginner!) . its mostly self-explanatory by the pics, but i went and explained anyway.. i begin by sizing a blank about 1/2” thick x 1-1/2 wide, and long enough to cut off several squares cut them off on my band saw (God i love my bandsaw!, Minimax MM16,bought used for a Song!)the cu...

Dehumidifier Kiln

1927 days ago by bigwoodturner | 12 comments »

Most of you are not going to turn on as large a scale as I do so you are not going to need as large a facility as I use. I am going to talk about what I call a coffin kiln. By enclosing an area under a wall mounted work bench about the size of a coffin you will be able to dry several weeks worth of turning. Frame the area in or simply build a framed box of the same size. If you are building under a bench your door will drop down and if you build a free standing box have the lid open like ...

Woodturning #1: New Bench Grinder

2387 days ago by PhilipR | 11 comments »

My new bench grinder came in yesterday. Having done very little research before purchasing my lathe, I hadn’t realized just how expensive all the extra necessities were going to be; heck, I didn’t realize how much more I would have to buy before I’d be ready to start turning. Needless to say, I haven’t had the opportunity to sharpen my tools once since I purchased them in November and as a result have done very little turning on my home lathe. After the bowl turni...

Brian Havens, Woodturner

This is a video I made to promote my turning sales, but I think that my fellow woodturners and woodworkers will enjoy it as well. Ooop! Almost forgot the disclaimer: WARNING: Woodturning can—is—highly addictive. Brian Havens, The Fallen Tree, and any and all of their associates cannot be held liable for any lost wages, lost time, lost income, rehabilitation costs, spousal disputes, or any other damages resulting from anyone becoming a woodturner as a result of watching this video...
