The hikers search for birch

11-26-2012 10:20 PM by jjw5858 | 3 comments »

Our hike began with a sense of fun and small adventure through a parade of awaiting sticker bushes and many fallen trees laid out before us like a maze of dominoes in there felled awkward patterns. I felt so blessed to have my father leading the way down the slopes of leaves and enjoying his memories about the hillside with so many tales from his experienced 75 years. We were up for taking a chance at finding some birch wood for spoons and kuksa, not much of the fine tree stands in the cur...

The old time woodshop journals #16: Thoughts without pictures

07-28-2012 10:04 PM by jjw5858 | 6 comments »

The simple pleasures of enjoying my shop include the sounds of nature. I love to hear the birds talk their own language or maybe listen to a late afternoon breeze announcing it’s arrival and sending a small wave of coolness into the shop as if it were saying a friendly hello. The sound of the saw when it is freshly sharpened and greets the wood with that strong crisp command of a kerf to a clean cut. Looking at the handle when placing it down on my bench and having just a minute o...

The old time woodshop journals #2: From the shop to the fields to the bench

How would I be able to have the proper...

Handmade Portraits #5: Handmade Portraits: Jason Tennant

08-20-2010 09:30 PM by Etsy | 5 comments »

“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see Nature all ridicule and deformity… and some scarce see Nature at all. But, to the eyes of the man of imagination, Nature is imagination itself.” — William Blake, Letter to the Reverend John Trusler, August 23, 1799 Jason Tennant is grounded. He is rooted in his place with strength and dignity, not so distinct from the trees surrounding him. Before ...

"Hobbit Holes in MyWorld" --by RusticWoodArt #69: My Zone of Wood Art

03-23-2010 08:35 AM by frank | 8 comments »

My Zone of Wood Art ….art is the interpretation of what is before you, and therefore needs no-out-side influence to make it more then it is in this moment. The problem that many have with art is that it is all-ways regulated to some other plane of our existence, out-side the time-work of where we are now. Because the many see art as so ‘other’, these many lost souls to the world of art, will in-deed all-ways be seeking for art as if it is some-thing that is found in the so ...
