The hikers search for birch

Our hike began with a sense of fun and small adventure through a parade of awaiting sticker bushes and many fallen trees laid out before us like a maze of dominoes in there felled awkward patterns. I felt so blessed to have my father leading the way down the slopes of leaves and enjoying his memories about the hillside with so many tales from his experienced 75 years. We were up for taking a chance at finding some birch wood for spoons and kuksa, not much of the fine tree stands in the cur...

Barely a week past the misadventures and tragedy of hurricane Sandy and ole New Jeyyyyessssy has a new storm to deal with. Although much lighter than Sandy’s roar this experience provides snow mixed with freezing rain. Sometimes it’s true that less weight on a woodcraft project makes for more learning in our execution of total composition. I always try to experiment with various ideas, styles, and media wether it is seeking inspiration from an old pine tree or taking some good advice from a favorite musician.
