Woodworking for a Job ?

06-28-2010 08:52 PM by cdbridge39 | 17 comments »

I have been thinking about going into woodworking full time. I like to work with wood all the time, what does that say about me ? Does anyone do woodworking full time ? I just don’t know what would be a good product to make and sell. Does anyone have any ideas ? Some pointers and tips would be good. I like making lathe stuff but I don’t think there is much money in it. Maybe some furniture or boxes ?

Hey everyone,I am in need of some help! I am writing a book called “The Burl Hunter”. I am looking for interested people who are willing to read as I write to help me out. I am not a great writer but I love to teach. What I would like to do is get about 5 people to read and critique the book. Even edit my grammar. I would like 2 people who know about burls just to keep me in check and 3 to just read to learn and see how it flows. I need your input. It is a book that will g...

Had a great time today with Rustic Rick his wife Nancy, Billie J. and his wife Lou Ann, SteveMI, and Myself and my lovely wife Kris. I got a cheaper version of the Gripper from Woodline USA, at $16.00, and a router for my Dremel. Oh man they had some wood to die for, we just had no way to get it home. I’ll have to let the other guys tell you what they got cause I wasn’t paying to much attention. Needless to say I couldn’t find any Lathe tools to speak off. Or any thing else ...

Hey everyone!I have recently opened up a shop on Etsy.com to sell my wooden airplane whirligigs. I have so much fun making them, and love learning the history behind each model I build. I have recently moved into the business of selling them, as i cannot possibly fit anymore in my yard!!! You’ll find that the prices I have chosen are very low, just enough to keep the cost of supplies from getting my wifes attention! so check them out here:http://www.rickswhirligigs.etsy.comthanks!!!

Well here it is, the year 2010 and we are planning our newest projects for the year. I have come out with the idea of we use each others talents to enhance our own products. All of us is better at maybe putting a certain cut, or carving out that likeness of and animal a little bit better, or routering those curves, angles or ends on a piece of wood, What ever we are just a little bit better at maybe we can help each other with that special project. I hope maybe my talent of burning that speci...

I often look over all the new projects displayed here on LumberJocks and think how lucky all of you really are to have the talent to be able to make so many and beautiful peices of ART. I have worked with wood for over 30 years now, everything from construction, finish carpenter, cabinate maker, craftsman and now wood burning. Many of you have seen many of my peices of work but several have not been posted. I have produce over 300 pictures in the last couple of years, and try and do alittle m...
