01-20-2010 01:41 AM by RicksWhirligigs | 3 comments »

Hey everyone!I have recently opened up a shop on Etsy.com to sell my wooden airplane whirligigs. I have so much fun making them, and love learning the history behind each model I build. I have recently moved into the business of selling them, as i cannot possibly fit anymore in my yard!!! You’ll find that the prices I have chosen are very low, just enough to keep the cost of supplies from getting my wifes attention! so check them out here:http://www.rickswhirligigs.etsy.comthanks!!!

I hope maybe my talent of burning that speci...

Many of you have seen many of my peices of work but several have not been posted. I have produce over 300 pictures in the last couple of years, and try and do alittle m...

10-24-2009 05:33 PM by OregonBurls | 8 comments »

This is in addition to the burl blog I put on a week ago. Thank you for all the reads. This is to the best of my knowledge and I am still learning.I have found crazy figure in tree crotches. A tree crotch is where two branches come together. It is usually the piece that fire wood people don’t want because it doesn’t slit. That is because the crotch is the hardest part of the tree and the grain in going in different directions. It’s where you get what is called “feather”. “Haring bone, r...

I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know. It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....
