I’ve been fiddlin around with this…. expermenting. Had a few pieces of Oak n Walnut layin round. It needs glued, sanded, and finished still. I used 2 different sized woods on the front, back and sides. I finally got a chance to get the “Router Fence System” from Woodline out that I purchased at the WIA show in Sept. I’m real happy with this product. Hope I’ll have more boxes in my future projects. WOW! I can’t believe this was 100 days ago...
The next box in the series Oops!, A Llittle Cabinetree, and now Facets is on the build. It had to be started because I’ve been obsessing too much on the finish of Cabinetree and in order to amuse myself between coats I had been so bored I had started making micro plywood and then micro boxes and banding. It had to stop.So the other day I started to think about what the next logical step would be keeping the theme and some of the aspects of the others but going a very different direction...
Oops! began as an idea about outside the box hinges. I’ve always liked the “box on stand” idea but had never tried one so that sort of fell into place and one of the first ideas I had about box decoration was a “spill” pattern. I sketched these on a bit of paper at the kitchen table one day and it was left there. Last December I restored an old ShopSmith 10 ER and had been wanting to see how good a tool it really was and what kind of precision I could achieve...
If you folks recall, I was having some Fun with a new box project, a sort-of “Striped” Box… One thing I’ve not found, in the recent move, is more time! So it’s been slow going…But I finally managed to cut the second panel’s stripes, and to cut the top from the bottom of this thing…There was a problem with the top, and while I was figuring out what, exactly, I was going to do about it, I went ahead and made the hinge for it. In keeping with th...
When it comes to building boats, I guess after 30 years of it I am a professional, but as a hobby woodworker I’m pretty new. Boatbuilding has given me lots of skills and abilities with tools but the scale of projects and the individual manual skills required to make small cabinets and art furniture are totally different. I am a real beginner at this stuff and am having a ball trying to learn everything at once. I retired five and a half years ago, following which my wife and I rebuilt o...
When I started the “Just for Fun” series, I never thought that I could keep it going this long!! But here I am at my fiftieth “Fun-type” blog… Many Thanks to all of you, for the encouragement and interest my Friends!!To my astonishment, You have made this the third “Most Discussed” blog series on Lumberjocks!!And now, back to the Fun… We left off last time with the latest box freshly parted, top from bottom, and awaiting sanding… The sa...
After fixing the hole in the kitchen ceiling, I didn’t have anything lined up to do like I like to have… So for about a week, it was thumb-twiddling time (at least shop-wise)...Every time the stairs were descended, heading down to the shop, there were no sparks of creativity going on, no light bulbs going off flashing new ideas…But there was this… On top of my pile of “Real Woods” was the leftover 2” x 8” that I had cut in half for the kitche...
