245 days ago by frank | 3 comments »

Echo-Friendly Habitat//Furniture Building ....and so as we continue to search and re-fine a name for a website, let us not get caught in a ‘wooden’ box of our own making and in so doing, fail to gather and draw from the world around us, all that is fast becoming ‘echo friendly’. One of the things to consider today is; are we as woodworkers fast becoming a relic of the past, due in time to go the ways of other dinosaurs that could not merge with what is happening...

The Best of 'Wood Art" #12: "Found a Power Tool"

266 days ago by frank | 10 comments »

Found a Power Tool ....eeeh, eeeh, eeeh, eeeh, eeeh….was the sounding of rasping, vibrating, sonic, electronic, springboard, greeting that pulled me up from my earlier place of peace-full slumbering dream-scape, into the now of later remembering, that this is my inhabited world of 2008. So once again I hit the snooze button and told myself that just a few more minutes would not matter all that much as I felt the coldness of the early morning air, shifting around within the closure of...

36 days ago by frank | 15 comments »

Drupes and Drupaceous Nuts as Tung Oil So lets cut to the center of the fruit….like cutting to the quick, and talk about China Wood Oil, wood nut oil or just plain ‘tung oil’. And since we’re talking in the language of botany, maybe it would be best too first say that tung oil is not a true nut, but is a fruit that comes to us as a drupe or what is also called ‘stone fruit’. Definition of a drupe….stone fruit is: ’’a one-seeded indehisc...

An Introduction of Wood Happenings So it’s that time again….and if you’ve spent any amount of time around here at LJ; last spring, summer and fall then you must know by now, some-what as to my occasional excursions into the forests and woods of New England. This year I have decided to re-name and post under a continuation of short story ‘series’ and so I will be calling these posted blog stories….”Hobbit Holes in MyWorld”. J. R. R. Tolkien on...

"Hobbit Holes in MyWorld" --by RusticWoodArt #18: Reflections on Beavers and Trees

77 days ago by frank | 17 comments »

Reflections on Beavers and Trees Out here in the woods, I am part of a whole picture where what happens with wood….also happens to all involved with wood, plus those un-in-volved with wood….hmmm, are any who are really non-existent from wood? Well the answer is yes and no, one can be selfish and think only of their needs when going for wood, but...

Inspiration #1: Science Fiction Woodworking?

54 days ago by 12ftguru | 5 comments »

A friend of mine passed this on to me from a science fiction blog called io9.com. It’s a brief article on a woodworker named Jahnna Y. Klukas. I popped over for a quick look at her site and spent the next 30 minutes saying “Oh my God.” over and over again. Her work is simply amazing.
