Have not been here much in the last year or so. I got a new position at work which has taken up more time in a good way. I have actually built a bunch more of the kitchen cabinets which I will post later. I am finally building some removable sliding windows for the porch. I put some fixed windows in a few years ago, but it was long enough that I completely forgot how to do the job smoothly. So I am going to document it this time. In this blog: How to make the frames. Here are two of the...
Well it’s been just over 60 days since I bought the apple. I can say that the experience has been a good one. So is the Apple better than the Windows machine? Fact is that I still have the Dell M90 sitting here and have used it as well as the Apple. Each has a place. Like comparing your table saw and your miter saw. Each has features that may be useful at one time or another. The Apple software is mostly compatible with the Windows software. Only problem I found is that Power Po...
Well . . . I jumped ship from Windows to Apple. After working with windows from 3.1 thru 7 I slid a Mac Pro in next to the Dell M90. It is a different, very different experience. I spent a lot of time at the Apple store, trying to do some of the kinds of things that i use a computer for. The people were very helpful with questions, and left me alone to “putz”. I finally took the plunge! I decided to try to totally stop thinking Windows and approach the Apple as if it was my...
The earthquake which occurred on Feb 22, 2011 in Christchurch, NZ is tragic with loss of lives, destruction of infrastructure and sad stories which will continue to unfold over time. I don’t mean to take away from the human tragedy that this is and will continue to be for a long time and I hope I am not being insensitive by making a few observations about what buildings were damaged and which ones weren’t. My own town of Murchison was the epicentre of a 7.8 magnitude earthqu...
I didn’t get to resaw any wood for the summer challenge yet. Still having some issues with the bandsaw and was busy with 5 windows and work this weekend. We are replacing all our old windows with new Pella Prolines. Nice to get rid of the storm windows and they should really save some energy. We are using all new construction instead of the replacements. We didn’t want to lose the glass area and these are still going pretty quickly. The pictures I had a headache in the mo...
