Gothid Arc Church Windows

192 days ago by stanley2 | 7 comments »

We have a rural church built in 1920 and abandoned in 1970. By last year it was near collapsing with serious damage to the roof and one wall. All windows and doors had been removed. A few of us volunteered to save it so we got the required approvals to go on site and do our thing. My task is to build the windows, doors and related jambs. The windows are the gothic arc style. All I have to work from is one photo of what they were back in 1970 and a severely weathered window jamb with sil...

Also, video blog is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEzqKl-QOwA&feature=youtu.be I was looking for some photos and saw this – very old, and remembered that long time ago saw rare architecture, sculptures and houses in Riga. I put together a brief, and I mean brief, video that includes the dimensions for all of the major components of the window box. I had to do it this way because the graphics were too large to post on the project page. The clarity is not as good as I had ...

WHAT'S UP? "While I'm out in my Shop". #16: Finishing the window with shingles.

1712 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 11 comments »

We finally got some decent weather, so I rushed out, put some shingles around the window. I couldn’t salvage enough old shingles for the job, but it didn’t turn out too bad. The new ones will gradually blend in while aging. Photos by Barb!

Kitchen Window Arches

2091 days ago by lightweightladylefty | 6 comments »

I originally wanted raised panel arches for over the windows in the kitchen similar to some I had seen at Menards. That was three years ago. I had done all the trim work in the kitchen, fluted some pieces, and added corner blocks with rosettes to trim between cabinets in the dining room. After thinking on the arch design for a period of time, I decided t...
