03-04-2013 08:40 PM by AJM | 2 comments »

So i unveiled my knife handle this morning.. The curly birch was glowing.. the purple heart lookes splendid.. i think i will leave the bird cherry to a picture. So like the weather this morning i take a negative and go for a positive.. I can do an article on rehandling/renewing a damaged knife. After a bad start to the day with the k...

Shop Stuff. #7: Wood Gloat

03-11-2010 04:30 AM by rsmith71 | 7 comments »

Just had to add my own free wood gloat. Last fall a friend of a friend decided to clean out his workshop. My friend called me and asked if I was interested. I couldn’t get there fast enough. We loaded up in my truck and hit the road. Let me say first I thought I might get 2 or 3 boards out of this trip but decided what the heck. We get there and talk to the guy and he’s decided he doesn’t have the room for everything he had and we started loading my truck up. And kept loadin...

Rustic Furniture #1: Four Yrs in The Making

08-22-2013 07:20 AM by Izzy Swan | 6 comments »

Doing this thing on YouTube where I have been sharing ideas and jigs that I build to (I hope) inspire people to thinking out side of the realm of traditional craftsmanship and maybe try something new.. any way the link below is to a slide show of a few off the pieces I have ...

I have just five minutes, but I’ll put some pictures of the work. The raw work is over: God willingly, tomorrow I’ll began with adjusting, sanding and finishing. What do you think of the whole? Tonight I’ll sit for a while and try to post a video. See you later, ...”sawdust-gators”.

New Works In Progress --by RusticWoodArt #3: "Wood Stories...."

04-26-2007 05:34 PM by frank | 3 comments »

Wood Stories: ”Bench Dogging Before Greene and Greene” ....ah yes, and then it all starts coming back into focus, as i relax my grip upon this place of fields and greens, where imagination comes calling and selling herself to the highest bidder of foolish dreams…. —-and i realize now, that i am one of those foolish dreamers with pockets full of golden star dust, who could never quite adjust to walking this place of earthen dust, by giving up my right to silent...

New to the community and the craft. Hello everybody!

06-04-2011 05:50 PM by Ward Grant | 10 comments »

Hi all. What a fantastic village you all live in here. Very cool! I am new to carving and to your community. I love working with all the local woods available in the lower mainland. I have only transit for transportation so I scour the beaches and trails and river banks for pieces to call out to me to work with. I grew up in the north country and really miss seeing diamond willow. Are there any diamond willow stands in the GVA? I don’t desire to chop down any trees…I look ...
