Spent a few hours today cutting, grinding and welding. The main base assembly is all welded up. I am going to finish (grind) some of the welds, clean the rust off of the steel and get ready for the feet and casters. Overall pretty productive day so far… I am just going to post a bunch of pictures, if anyone has any questions, just let me know! Sawstop PCS Mobile base #1: Planning

484 days ago by pneufab | 2 comments »

I am going to try doing a Blog. Although this project is going to be a metal working project, it is for a wood working tool. :) I ordered my Sawstop 3HP PCS a few weeks ago and it will arrive next week (4/1). I am on vacation the following week so I plan to get it assembled and tuned up. I was planning to get the mobile base for free (the promo that they are currently running) but as I was doing some thinking, I decided against it and will get the dust collection instead, for two reason...

Mobile Workstation #2: Let's do the twist!

863 days ago by chopnhack | 1 comment »

Ok, so it’s much more fun to dance than to fix…. Apparently welding a frame should not be undertaken without proper support, or ahh… more experience. The frame had a twist to it across the 59.5” length! I cleared a section of the shop floor (miracle) got out my door installation level and found a fairly level area. I then proceeded to use some shims to adjust the floor until the it was perfectly level. Gotta give credit to the guys that screeded the floor some 50 y...

Mobile Workstation #1: The center of my shop renovation - from the ground up..

876 days ago by chopnhack | 6 comments »

The mobile workstation is in my opinion going to be the center of my workshop once its built. An integrated router table, table saw, downdraft table and ample storage in a ~ 5’ x 2’ area on wheels! Certainly not my idea, however, the layout will be done solely by me. I am open to all suggestions though, so please feel free to brainstorm here and let me know what has worked for you, what you would do differently if you had to build one again, etc. All comments and suggestions are w...

dining table and tons more.

Hello everyone. I have been busy making stuff and have finally finished a video that has been almost a year in the making. I made this video to be like a commercial for me and my work so it doesn’t give any tutorial. I do have a series of videos to be published soon that are more along that line. My goal as a video maker is to provide the viewer with an alternative to the typical format of woodworking videos; where a guy stands across the bench and talks at the camera, showing lit...

New skill acquired, I welded a winch support stand for my sawmill

1242 days ago by HalDougherty | 6 comments »

I spent the day metal working… But it’s going to make my woodworking easier. I needed a way to lift big logs onto my sawmill and to turn them while sawing. So, I took some steel channel material and some flat stock and welded them into a support stand. Now that I’ve made one welding project, I have many more projects that I’ll need to weld. Now that the metal work is finished, I’ll add a 4” X 6” white oak beam to the bottom steel plate to fit under...
