I am thinking of getting a set of drawknives built and I am wondering if anyone has any good recommendations. I am thinking of getting some vintage knives. Anyone have recommendations for Brand and other things to look for in the selection of drawknives? I have seen Greenlee, Swan, Wilkenson and some other brands. Is there a brand that excels? Are there good modern knives available? Also, I am looking for a bowl adze. I have seen one that I really like but it is quite spendy. ...

Hi Folks, WayneC posted a great blog entry on Turning a Pen with outstanding instruction and resources. Using Wayne’s blog and resources, I started turning a few pens and have found a lot of enjoyment in a quick little project in the shop. This week is a continuation of a homage to the Lumberjocks California Highway 99 group (including Bill Brooks, Obi and WayneC). Wayne, as many know who follow his blog series has a passion for rehabilitating older tools with an emphasis on hand planes of all types. Playing Around with Carving #10: Best Lighing for Carving

So far, I have been carving outside on my patio and the lighting is great. I’m anticipating that I will have to move inside into my garage based shop as the weather turns colder and wetter. The shop has pretty good fluorescent lighting, but I would not say it is the equavilant of natural light. Does anyone have recommendations for lighting to use for carving. I am thinking that task lighting that could attach to my workbench would be a good option. Any suggestions for how I sho...
