A Second Experience in Building a Burial Casket (aka Thorsen Table Challenge Entry)

911 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 12 comments »

A few weeks ago I blogged that my next commission project would be a Mission Style Casket for my Uncle John. He passed away last night, so in the midst of being filled will joy that this project is nearly complete, I am also saddened by his expected death. Throughout my life, Uncle John has been an “encourager”, despite what path I took. Even when I’m sure he was concerned about decisions I was making, he always showed me respect, and encourgement. The type of “e...

Thorsen Side Table #4: Finally, Glue Up. Making the pegs.

927 days ago by fred | 5 comments »

I finally finished the design work for the table aprons. Nothing quite spectacular but my own touch and interpretation has been added. No pics yet since my daughter has not returned from England with my camera. She should be back Sunday night. So pics will have to wait until next week. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. It is starting to look like a table. Saturday I glued up the table ends and stretchers. Sunday I glued up the back and front with the small shelf between the...

Thorsen Side Table #1: Now you have gone and done it.

944 days ago by fred | 13 comments »

Ok, ok, ok. I have seen all your beautiful beautiful tables. So, now I have been shamed that I have not made one, I am officially joining the challenge. I had a slab of beautiful oak that would be just the size for four table legs and another 3/4” piece that would be great for the aprons. Last weekend I cut the legs and planned them to size and marked all the legs to accept a mortise. I cut the aprons to size and made the tenons. I still have not established the design...

Thorsen Table Challenge #7: Going for the Top !! Also pegging joints info.

946 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 33 comments »

The last couple of days, I’ve been working on the tabletop. I mortised out the breadboards, & cut the tenons. I kind of fell for the cloud lift theme, so I incorporated into the top. You might want to call this a sideways cloud lift. I decided to try something from the latest issue of Fine Woodworking, They call it draw bored pegging on the breadboards. This is something I’ve never tried before, so we’ll see what happens. Check out my latest Video, hope you ...

My Walnut board was 6 3/4” wide, but it was dished a little, so I ripped it in half, & joined it in 4 sections for the top, I also glued some Ash to the edges. The Top clamped up.Now I have to go out, & start with the breadboard ends for the Tabletop. This is one of the Shelves, using my new Irwin Clamps

Well this is the second time I’ve wrote this I tried to slip in a picture and ended up losing my whole blog. Oh well, what else have I got to do, it ain’t the first time. To the blog: I’ve spent the better part of two days trying to track down all the parts to my blower/vac I’m talking 200 mph of sucking and blowing power ow, ow, ow, ow, more power (tim the tool man). I needed it because I’ve got about 6-8 inches of saw dust and chips from all the planing and j...
