Another short Blog entry to post a concept sketch of a President Barak Obama Walking Cane. This cane design has been inspired by several historical examples of Election and Political Figure “Bust Top” collector walking canes.
I have another design I’m working on the concept sketch for with an “Abraham Lincoln Bust Top” walking cane, and he’s deceased, and so that can not be determined as “politics”, just art. Ha.

I took most of the day of today and traveled to Hutchinson, KS to see the exhibits and check on my entries. This was the first time I have had anything entered in the Fair since my old 4-H days, which ended many years ago.

This is a walking Cane handle that I am working on for a commissioned cane. The Antler has an end cap done in Fine-Silver, a technique I developed in the silversmithing classes I took this Spring.

I think it is really important to constantly try to learn new things. Could just be my ADHD. But, I’m too old for medications, so I take on new things to learn to keep my mind freed-up from boredom.
I just don’t like doing anything the same, more than once, or twice. And, I’ve been trying to find ways to make a niche for myself in the vast internet woodworking world. To that end, I try unique crafts, and do cross-discipline, mixed-media work, in the hopes that my work...

My recent lumberjock postings of the walking cane work I have done recently has brought a lot of interest from folks wanting me to build them special, unique, elaborately detailed, walking canes and sticks.
This new blog communicates the design process on one cane as I prepare to start the carving, and get approvals on the final design.
The customer is a Youth Pastor, and needs to use a tall walking cane to support a bad knee. He and I have been designing this project for several weeks...
