## 5 Cuts to a "Perfect" Cross Cut Sled

03-01-2012 02:39 AM by | 50 comments »

I’ve been getting a few email requests for a video on how I calculate the error ratio and how to correct and construct a cross cut sled that’s dead on square. I’ve been demonstrating this at the Woodworking shows for the past 5, 6 years and I still get emails asking me about the error ratio calculations. So here it is. Material List for sled:Runners: 5/16” x 3/4” x 30” Base: 1/2” x 34” x 30” Front Fence: 1-1/2” x 5” x 30R...

I love my original crosscut sled, so when the voters at Eagle Lake asked me to make a video about how to make that s...

## Furniture Design #1: Fibonacci gauge

1 • 1 • 2 • 3 • 5 • 8 • 13 • 21 • 34 – The Fibonacci Sequence I have been fascinated with The Fibonacci Sequence and The Golden Rectangle for some time. I finally got around to building a Fibonacci Gauge that was featured in WOOD Magazine. The guage maintains a consatnt proportion of 1:1.618 between the points. It is used to help determine visually appealing proportional dimensions. I am looking forward to using the guage in future projects. Follow the text below for so...

## How I Make a Lazy Susan

10-01-2008 05:36 PM by | 33 comments »

Now before I get started on this little demonstration of how I do it, let me caution you on a couple things. IF you try anything like this, take the plate that your saw blade comes up through and close that hole completely up with a thin piece of wood. Make sure it is even with the top, with no gaps and no lips to catch the pieces. You want it smooth. Then with a “Hollow ground plywood blade” come up from the bottom so you have no gap between the blade and the wood. You may have to do this a ...

## Tap and Screw Jig Tutorial #1: Intro/Screw Dimensioning

11-25-2011 03:28 AM by | 49 comments »

Hello. This is a new blog series I am doing. The topic is how to make a tap and screw jig for making large wooden screws. To start I will say that I hope many of the readers find this series useful because they can use the knowledge to make their own screws and nuts for clamps, vises, presses, etc… It took my friend and I hours upon hours, spread over months to finally get a functioning tap and screw jig. So my purpose in writing this blog is to give other woodworkers the proper inst...

Wow, there are a bazillion examples of bandsaw boxes on LumberJocks. I always thought they were complicated and had a hard time finding some really basic instruction. Well, here is a video for all of us bandsaw box newbies! The neat thing about bandsaw boxes is that if you give them away as gifts, people will be amazed and wonder about your woodworking prowess. They will think you are a woodworking god! Little will they know that you are a Mere Mortal and these boxes are totally easy to cr...

## V8 Degree wedge powered workbench #1: Some Features and Operational Videos.

While this is the beginning of my construction blog for the V8 Degree bench, I’m not actually going to get into the build just yet. There are a few more features that I didn’t want to clutter the project post with and I’ve added a couple of demo videos on the vises. I thought it would be best to start with a full view of the bench and its operational features first and get into the construction process in the next segment. This photo shows the dog hole inserts that hide a...

Aimed at those new to saw sharpening, this instructional video is 2 1/4 hours long and covers the theory, the tools and the practice of sharpening western saws.
