How I Make a Lazy Susan

421 days ago by WoodMosaics | 20 comments »

Now before I get started on this little demonstration of how I do it, let me caution you on a couple things. IF you try anything like this, take the plate that your saw blade comes up through and close that hole completely up with a thin piece of wood. Make sure it is even with the top, with no gaps and no lips to catch the pieces. You want it smooth. Then with a “Hollow ground plywood blade” come up from the bottom so you have no gap between the blade and the wood. You may have to do this a ...

Shop Skills #2: Card Scrapers the Video!

332 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 52 comments »

It’s Finally Here! I have completed my first feature woodworking video. This video shows how I sharpen my card scrapers. It is a simple process and I kept the instruction simple with some close-up video action. I hope this post goes smooth, it has taken me all day to figure out how to finish up the video and 3 attempts to get it online. So this is a pretty big moment. I can work on polished video later but I have to start somewhere. I hope that this video on sharpening ca...

Dovetailing a box

715 days ago by Alin Dobra | 33 comments »

Hello, In this blog I spend almost 40 minutes in four videos explaining how I cut dovetails. Since I give most of the explanations in the video, I will not repeat them in writing. There are multiple ways you can use these videos:1. See how somebody else is cutting dovetails and maybe get some idea how to improve your technique2. Learn how to cut dovetails from scratch3. Confirm some of the frustrations/solutions you have Use the comments to give extra hints or talk about what works/...

Furniture Design #1: Fibonacci gauge

845 days ago by David | 27 comments »

1 • 1 • 2 • 3 • 5 • 8 • 13 • 21 • 34 – The Fibonacci Sequence I have been fascinated with The Fibonacci Sequence and The Golden Rectangle for some time. I finally got around to building a Fibonacci Gauge that was featured in WOOD Magazine. The guage maintains a consatnt proportion of 1:1.618 between the points. It is used to help determine visually appealing proportional dimensions. I am looking forward to using the guage in future projects. Follow the text below for so...

The Super Sled #1: Shop Built Tenon Jig

248 days ago by John Nixon | 8 comments »

I finished the latest accessory for the Super Sled – the Tenon Jig. It’s pretty darn easy to build. The Tenon Jig’s features include: - micro adjustment feature- built in scale- unique leveling system For PDF measured drawing of the Super Sled and the Tenon Jig, go to the project page and click on the “Browse This Projects Files” link towards the top:h...

Oh For Keepsake!

27 days ago by thewoodwhisperer | 30 comments »

Its that time of year again: HOLIDAY PROJECT TIME! So this year, I decided to make a few little keepsake boxes, thanks to some advice from The Great WOODini. I also took inspiration from a box Nicole keeps on her nightstand and developed a new design that is much more practical for the average woodworker to make. The boxes feature a secret locking pin. Once removed, the lid slides off on a sliding dovetail. And as always with these holiday gift projects, you can modify them by trying diffe...
