After a play in 3D CAD here is my prototype Chevy in the making. She consists of a single sheet of grade C birch plywood 18.00mm for the main body, trans arms and internal levers, seat etc, and there is still a couple of square feet left over after all the parts were cut out. So far the cost of materials comes to just under a hundred pounds for 99% of the materials, the plywood was £40.00 inclusive of tax. All the main sections were cut out acurately for me at the supplier at no extra ...
It’s finally finished! In this video I perform the final assembly of the secretary. I install the tambours and handles, the backs, and the drawer hardware. Yes, I did end up going with the larger pulls. There were some very good points made about the larger and smaller pulls. However in the end, it boiled down to my beautiful wife making the final decision. A nice coat of wax and it’s complete! Thanks to everyone who watched and supported me during this build! As always, I welcome your com...
Last time I posted on that project I was steam bending my mouldings. The columned were veneered in a previous post. Since this post we had another job to do a video on veneering column with Liquid Hide Glue that we posted on our Old Brown Glue playlist on youtube. It is uploading at the moment so go see it later if you are interested in learning how to veneer columns, we are pretty proud of it. The columns were turned with groves to allow for black rings. T...

These are my original design ideas for making my jewelry boxes. These diagrams may be a little confusing because I did not intended for them to be published. You guys are so nice, I had no choice but to share. This design was prevously used for making cigar humidors. I don’t have good pictures of them—sorry. I have lots of detailed instructions for every step to make this box. Just ask and I’ll add more to this blog. The rough cut diagram shows the sequence t...
Wow, how time flies by when you get frustrated with a project and set it aside. It’s over a year since I started this blog series and it’s time to finish my project and close this chapter of the blog. Here are few pictures of the rod guides that I tied and ended up removing and re-tying. With all the practice, I think I have the the hang of it. Practice makes perfect.
So my latest project is officially underway. Click Here http://lumberjocks.com/bfd/blog/8062 to see the back story and details. I decide to build from the ground up so I start with the slab legs first. Here you see one end panel with the heavy duty glides attached and the 3 inner layers of Particle board. The glides are rated for either 1000 or 2000 lbs (either way they should hold!) The layers are glued and screwed together to make a particle board sandwich. I then atta...
