Accordion Refurb #2: Some bad news

02-06-2012 09:02 PM by BritBoxmaker | 4 comments »

Well I’d done some work stripping down the box to make re-covering it a little easier and started planning which new pieces we’d need this key board cover to be copied in veneered 3mm Birch ply. I have made a TurboCAD 3D model of the Accordion to help with visualising different wood veneer/ banding finishes. I don’t use Sketchup, I’ve nothing against it, having thoroughly learnt one CAD package I don’t see why I should have to start from s...

Biedermeier/30's Dining Room Table #4: - Ready for finish

08-05-2014 06:40 PM by Patricelejeune | 12 comments »

Last time I posted on that project I was steam bending my mouldings. The columned were veneered in a previous post. Since this post we had another job to do a video on veneering column with Liquid Hide Glue that we posted on our Old Brown Glue playlist on youtube. It is uploading at the moment so go see it later if you are interested in learning how to veneer columns, we are pretty proud of it. The columns were turned with groves to allow for black rings. T...

I really like those 3 videos Christopher Schwartz came to do at the workshop a while ago. They are pretty good in my opinion let me know what you think! Hide (& Animal Protein) Glues: Background, Selection and How to Prepare Hammer Veneering: How To Apply Decorative Veneers Using Only Hand Tools If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask, we may do complementary video even if time is scarce.

LEATHERWORKING+PENS #1: Making a Pen case for sale!

03-16-2009 08:05 AM by ccpenco | 5 comments »

One of the people that my dad works with in my company has asked me to make for him a Pen complete with a leather case + a wooden box for his boss. I guess that he thinks that a good gift will improve his chances of keeping his job. Either way, i have to make it really good. He has given me pretty much free reign on what wood to use etc. So this will be an important project for me because it is one where i can really see if i’m any good at designing, etc. I ca...

Treasure Box - Series #2 - Post #15: Inside of the box "Frisage" (parquetry)

12-11-2014 10:18 PM by Patricelejeune | 11 comments »

After almost a month away in Europe, London and France, I am back and working on the boxes again. It was really nice to go back home as I haven’t been able to do so for 4 years. It was also nice to be back, through away the jacket and sweater, an put on the flip flops. Well, regarding the boxes. When I came back I put the already cut bone leaves in green dye and while waiting to feel up the holes in the marquetry, I started working on the inside of the boxes....

Plywood Chevalet #3: Hammer Veneering .... Won't be long now.

07-13-2016 04:47 AM by shipwright | 18 comments »

The plywood version of my chevalet design is officially a success. It cuts really nicely, is solid as a rock, and can be put together considerably more economically than a solid wood model and with less woodworking experience. ...... but it looks like plywood. :-( Well it did until today anyway. The new owner of the prototype ( one of my recent students, Kendra) came over today and made a very good start on hammer veneering it with some pretty 1/16” mahogany. She hadn’t done a...

BOULLE MARQUETRY WITH BRASS, PEWTER AND FAUX TORTOISE SHELL - a beginners approach #3: Preparing the marquetry panels for gluing down, and sanding the panels ready for engraving.

04-14-2017 12:59 PM by madburg | 4 comments »

Probably the best of the color combinations. A Premier Partie with a back ground of black and faux tortoise shell. PREPARING THE MAREQUETRY PANELS FOR GLUING ONTO THE SUBSTRATE I had already decide to use epoxy glue for my assembly – but more on this later ………. With the marquetry ‘jigsaws’ assembled on the gummed paper I used a black pigmented epoxy to fill the visible saw kerfs in the design. Traditionally, crushed charcoal mixed with shellac was used. I applied my pigmented epo...

I have over the past few weeks been able to start taking some overstock merchandise, merchandise that the customer either forgot about or didn’ t have the funds to pay after the customer used the companies sharpening service. Some of the blades, router bits and some shaper bits , I will be keeping for my self but, to be albe to buy more I have to sale items I don’t normally use or if there is way more of an item or group of items than I can use myself. This is one of those time. ...
