This intricate project is a veneered, inlaid, banded, and beaded set consisting of a coffee table and two end tables. The visible woods are curly maple, boire, Peruvian walnut, anigre, figured anigre, and wenge.
The secondary woods are mahogany and poplar.
This elevated shot shows the anigre veneered drawer bottom, and the detail in the top. The end tables are 23” tall and the tops are just under 26” X 26”. All three tables are finished with five coats of an oi...

I recently did a presentation for the Arizona Association of Fine Woodworkers. Paul Marcel St-Onge of Half Inch Shy recorded it. The web link has resource links for tool sources. I will be happy to answer any questions.

This Parquetry panel is an insert for a conference table. This is the companies logo, It’s an abstract design of an Eagle. The panel size is 24” wide x 54” long. This was a very fun project, it took me around 32 hours to draw, cut, glue, and stain and finish. I used the “The Window Method” because of the long straight lines and the geometrical shapes. It’s much more accurate this way. If I was to used a scroll saw it would be very hard to keep the lines straight.

The next box in the series Oops!, A Llittle Cabinetree, and now Facets is on the build. It had to be started because I’ve been obsessing too much on the finish of Cabinetree and in order to amuse myself between coats I had been so bored I had started making micro plywood and then micro boxes and banding. It had to stop.So the other day I started to think about what the next logical step would be keeping the theme and some of the aspects of the others but going a very different direction...

The making of a chess board with veneer. Mark made a comment earlier this week about a chess board that was presented as a project, that he’d like to make one for his son.
I sent him a private message and suggested that if he wanted to make a chess board, that I’d provide the veneer and some instructions on making it. There have been other posts in the last couple of weeks about veneering and vacuum veneering.
Mark replied that he didn’t have the equipment to do the veneering. I told hi...

Oops! began as an idea about outside the box hinges. I’ve always liked the “box on stand” idea but had never tried one so that sort of fell into place and one of the first ideas I had about box decoration was a “spill” pattern. I sketched these on a bit of paper at the kitchen table one day and it was left there.
Last December I restored an old ShopSmith 10 ER and had been wanting to see how good a tool it really was and what kind of precision I could achieve...

This Week I show you how to make a folding out feed table for your table saw. This design was based after an article and plan found in a 2009 issue of Woodworker’s Journal Magazine. Originally the plan was designed for a Cabinet saw with a Biesemeyer Fence System, so I had to make some slight modifications for my Porter Cable Saw. In this 3 part video series I show you a step by step on building this project as well as talk about the modifications I had to make. The Article and plans ca...

I just finished the practice piece for the top of the music box. The method of marquetry I use is one that I have developed over the years. I used some of the techniques like the boulle technique and the packet method and combined them into what I call, ” the ten step method.”
The veneer packet consisted of 8 different veneers and there were a total of 138 individual pieces. I used hot silicon sand for shading certain pieces of the veneers it gives the marquetry a 3D appearan...

When it comes to building boats, I guess after 30 years of it I am a professional, but as a hobby woodworker I’m pretty new. Boatbuilding has given me lots of skills and abilities with tools but the scale of projects and the individual manual skills required to make small cabinets and art furniture are totally different. I am a real beginner at this stuff and am having a ball trying to learn everything at once. I retired five and a half years ago, following which my wife and I rebuilt o...
