I wanted to take a picture of my wife’s new kitchen bureau, spice rack, and utensil hanger so that I colud post the finished work here on my blog. I wanted people to see what I was talking about. When she caught me taking pictures of her kitchen, however, my wife stopped me. She refused to let me post pictures that included the crummy cabinets above the counter. At the very least, she wanted to replace the forty five year old formica veneered cabinet doors. Wanting both to please my...

This series follows work in my shop, plus a lot of other interesting and useful insights (I hope that they are useful, anyway ;-). In this video I’m continuing to refurbish a rising top coffee table, I show the Dandy Lift for moving heavy stuff around the shop (really saves my back), and I show the different types and thicknesses of veneers for various purposes in my work. I think you will like it. View on YouTube
This larger marquetry has been quite the challenge. I’ve been pushing really hard to make the delivery date, it looks like I’m still going to be a week or two longer than expected. The next steps are bending the solid ebony inlays, then routing & inlaying them into the top. Then bending and gluing on the solid mahogany top edges, Then I’m off to the finishing booth. I haven’t had any spare time to hang out on LJ’s which I still love to do. Thank you for...

Last time I posted I had glued down the boxes bodies with the inside already french polished I worked on gluing the marquetry panels to the trimmed to size lid My favorite moment is when you see it glued down right way up for the first time, it appears slowly while you remove the paper This glueing of the marquetry on both side had to be precise has they had to be perfectly centered as well as the right way up as when you open the box the owner will appreciate to g...
For the marquetry I needed to figure out a few obstacles before starting the real marquetry for the top. So far it has taken me about three weeks to finally get to this stage and finishing the practice piece. Finding the right veneers and almost redrawi...
