Balanced Work Bench #3: I'm a bit retarded...

08-08-2013 03:33 AM by Jeremiah | 4 comments »

I had all these great ideas about this workbench, and how i was going to make it….sort of missed a BIG mistake. The leg vise i made, didn’t clear the top drawer. Such a DUMB mistake. Unfortunately i didn’t spot it until i was too far along. So i panicked and cut the vise to fit. After sleeping on it, i decided that too was really DUMB. but i had already cut it…. Look for yourself, please don’t laugh too hard (or if you do, don’t post it) BEFORE...

08-07-2013 12:41 AM by Patti Zongker | 11 comments »

It’s hard to believe that after two years of very hard work Dennis Zongker and I have finally received word that the book is at the printers… Working with Dennis has been filled with learning, laughing, and stressing over deadlines and in the end worth every second of it. David Marks Finishing Class 8-1 to 8-5-13 #1: Beautiful Santa Rosa

08-04-2013 04:01 AM by newTim | 2 comments »

I’m really enjoying the pace of the class with enough structure to keep it moving, but plenty of time to get to know David and the other students and to get all our questions answered. My goal is to establish a broad foundation in wood finishi...

Balanced Work Bench #1: Building a Semi-Classic workbench without taking a 2nd out on your house

07-16-2013 05:32 PM by Jeremiah | 2 comments »

Here goes…. Traditional work benches (roubo for example) are out dated. I know, heresy. But it’s true The reason they made those crazy over sized legs and joints was because they didnt have sheetgoods back then and they needed to over build them to deal with the lateral and horizontal force they experienced. It is my opinion that pine 2×6’s and 3/4 ply MORE than cover any of the structural needs of a work bench. So the next big argument FOR traditional w...

This is my attempt at a book box.Made with mahogany and pine. For the inlay I just used the table saw to make the grove. The hinges have taken up the most time but are very rewarding once they work properly. I will update the project as it progresses with photos.
