Along the way, we made a very conscience decision to offer our products at prices most people that visited arts and crafts shows could afford. Shame on us, we don’t have a business plan. Never did and never will have one. We knew what we wanted to accomplish. Banks and loan institutions insist on you having a business plan. All professional people (lawyers, accountants, and the like) will advise you to have one. I didn’t need a loan to get started, but if you are one that does need a loan, start writing. A bank will want to know that you have all of your ducks in a row. This business plan will be put in front of loan and management ...

Well I went to the attic, actually surface area of the wood rack in the workshop and picked up a Bigleaf Maple Burl piece that I bought about 5 years ago on eBay. It came from the Pacific Northwest of the USA.
The piece had been water blasted to remove all of the bark off the outer edge of the burl and that leaves the spikes that are seen here. The block had been dipped in wax to minimize the drying of it.
I then went to the jointer (spiral Carbide blades) and cleaned up the edges.

I mentioned in one of my project post where I pictured a small hand plane that I made in my shop that I also make the irons and sharpening stones. I of course make the wood too, since I have a sawmill. Others showed interest in more details, so here they are. I did not know where to start. I am starting with a honing stone I “made”.

I have watched this DVD about 5 times now. I will watch it another 5 times before Christmas. When it is all told, who knows how many times I will watch this. It’s that good.
I like to make boxes myself and I am continually trying to refine my approach. This video really makes it all seem very doable.

My old crosscut sled sucked. I made it before I acquired a lot of knowledge, but I’ve been dragging along with it for a while. I did some test cuts the other day, and realized just how out of shape it was, so I decided it was time for a new one.

A lot of LJs, after seeing my work, asked for a video demonstration of how to make a natural edge goblet. I posted on YouTube two videos (part 1 and 2). As it turns out, dealing with talking and camera while turning leads to loss of concentration. I managed to destroy the natural edge but I did get a goblet and you can see how I made it.
Sorry for he slightly rough editing and not so perfect camera work (my father is still learning the craft).
