And to add to your enjoyment a short short movie!!!
After much hesitation I began puting some red on and decided to go with “Banner Red”. These are the first of a few coats but getting eager to get the red done and move on the the Upholstery. But after the fabric comes the decals and that is not in my bag of tricks.
Some of my favorite projects to do is turning photographs into wood art. Each piece is unique and has special characteristics that mean something special to the customer. Taking something that a customer loves and turning it into artwork preserves that thing along with the memories that surround it. Some of the most common request that I get for these types of custom projects are vehicles, pets, homes, etc. I enjoy creating these because each one is custom and there is not another like...
Chevy Truck – Intarsia WoodworkingThe difference between men and boys is the prize of their toys ~ Doris Rowland I have had the pleasure of doing another truck project. This time it is of a Chevrolet Silverado. A while back, I did an intarsia project of my son’s Ford Boss truck (reference Boss post). One of his friends that he grew up playing football with saw the finished project and wanted one done of his truck. He sent me over a photograph of his truck to use as a template and to make a p...
Finished up assembly on this project. Had a blast and learned a lot along the way. The wheels are bought..I don’t own a lathe and have no desire to try to make them myself. As for the paint, I am going to mix my own military colors for this project using craft paint I have laying around. I post finished pics when I have them. Here are the latest photos to hold you over.
Got the first three pieces of the tank cut and currently gluing. Need to get going on the axles and wheels next. When done, this project will be painted and given to a co-worker for his son for Christmas.
well fellow jocks today started out with a small wood gloat, i was blessed with the opportunity of going into some friends land where a tornado went through and salvage some wood that was there, one was a good size dog wood tree, and the other was a very large mimosa tree, i found out that mimosa is a beautiful wood, and i wanted to try working with it, so i took the larger trunks to my local sawyer and while there, i was given a rare opportunity , if you have been to a sawyers wood lot, well...
I made the trek to my wood supplier that gives us free scrap wood for our Toy Making outreach at the Mason Dixon Woodworkers. These toys are given to underprivledged children at Christmas time. We usually make about 1300 or so toys each year. This is my catch from the past week. Approx 200 BD ft of Honduras Mahogany. A lot of it is 10/4 square and 30 to 35” long. I can get all of the wood that is less than 36” long. I’m also going through his cuttoff bin and taking all Sa...
This makes me laugh almost as much as it makes me cry. There’s a guy in my neighborhood with a big black truck parked on the street, and a pair of blue TruckNutz hanging below, which I must pass and notice every night when I drive home from work. I do admit that the sheer obnoxiousness of it does at least make me smile. But c’mon… beautiful wood burls? Is nothing sacred? I can only hope it’s injection-molded plastic wrapped in some kind of heat-shrink plastic print....
In part 2 of this saga, I got a call from Camille who’s lawn was coated in freshly fallen, fungally rotten Jacaranda mimosifolia. Her call awoke me with a start this morning, and soon I was at her house, borrowing her electricity for my electric chainsaw, and cutting up what I could. One heat stroke, or heat exhaustion later, and I drove away with a truck full of limbs. I ran home for my second shower and change, then off to work, then ran home at lunch (nice living 1.5 miles away) to d...
