Hey Everybody!
In this episode i am going to talk about how to mill lumber with only hand held power tools. This is an important part of woodworking because most boards aren’t jointed and parallel right out of the mill. Also i go through the steps of creating simple coat rack out of poplar so i can paint it.
I hope that everyone enjoys the podcast!
just a small correction. when i talk about the joinery for t...

Since I have installed the Delta T2 fence on my Craftsman tablesaw, I have had a few people asking how I installed it, especially, how I installed the fence so that it would zero properly. For those that are thinking about installing this fence on a craftsman, you WILL have to drill new holes in the rails. You can use one of the existing holes, but you will not be able to ‘0’ the fence.
I wish that I had taken pictures of each step to further clarify the information listed be...

I have to say setting up a wood shop is just as much work and cash, if not more, then setting up a steel shop. Luckily a few of the steel tools are useful and will come in handy to the wood shop. I have also a few tools from a set of cedar drafting drawers I built oh, 5 years back. It was a one time thing and at the time living in an apartment, dust was every where. All I really had was a Dewalt biscuit joiner and a random orbital sander, that was it.
A pic of the cedar drawers, mmmm they ...

I mentioned in one of my project post where I pictured a small hand plane that I made in my shop that I also make the irons and sharpening stones. I of course make the wood too, since I have a sawmill. Others showed interest in more details, so here they are. I did not know where to start. I am starting with a honing stone I “made”.
It did not work out exactly as planned. It is a very good stone and I will use it for honing razors personally and in my business (I run a small sh...

Thought I’d share a couple pics of some of my, umm… ‘creations’.
I’m sure everyone has fabricated a makeshift tool before, and shopmade jigs are commonplace. Here are a couple ‘tools’ that I put together because I didn’t have the actual tool. Both of them worked great for their intended purpose.
My Table Sander
I simply took a full sheet of sandpaper, folded the end over the edge of my work surface and clamped it down then stuck a pie...

Now I see why they have machines to do this…
I think I went into this overconfident in my abilities. How hard could it be to cut out a simple notch in a board??? Fairly hard when your attitude exceeds your ability.
First, I bought a ‘fancier’ saw than the basic dovetail saw and it just made things worse. Then – when that didn’t work I broke out the coping saw for some nice wavy cuts, I got out the chisel and tore it up real good, and finally… the D...

This method may seem somewhat unusual but with time it will result in perfect cut. I begin by warming 2 cups of water to approximately 110 degrees. To this you will add 2/3 cup of sugar and stir until dissolved. To the sugar water solution add 1 ½ tablespoons of a dry active yeast. Sprinkle the yeast into the water and then let it sit until the yeast begins to foam, this is referred to as “proofing your yeast”Once the yeast has “proofed” you will add 1 ½ teaspoons of salt and ¼ cup of vegeta...
