Roubo Inspired Bench #2: Enjoying the winter months with my Beech!

05-25-2013 02:45 PM by jusfine | 2 comments »

I have extended the length of the base to make room for more drawers, and also the length of the top to 96” instead of the WW planned 87” since my material was 10’ long and there seemed to be thought at the time that it would be better suited for what I do… After a lot of planing and thicknessing (those pieces are really awkward and heavy after awhile) I was ready to start with the glue-ups of the top sections. Most of the beech pieces I had were between 6&#...

Making a Router Plane

03-18-2013 08:37 PM by nobuckle | 7 comments »

Ever since I saw Mafe's router plane I’ve had the desire to make one. As I do most often I look here on LJs for inspiration. Well, I found it. As I searched I came across this gem of a router plane made by Tinnocker. Tinnocker got his inspiration from Mafe’s design as well. I used a picture of Tinnockers design to come up with my version of a router plane. The body of the plane is hard maple. The handles are from some old chair spindles I had laying around, The plane iron is a ...

Tools of the Trade - The Evolution of My Woodworking Tools

03-07-2013 02:35 PM by Chris Mobley | 1 comment »

Every wood worker has to start somewhere. My somewhere began with the purchase of a Shop Smith and this began the evolution of my woodworking tools. My mother and father had a friend that was selling their Shop Smith multi tool system back in the mid 1990’s and I was lucky enough to purchase it. I decided that buying this system gave me a reason to put my creativeness to work and begin doing ...

Shop (Garage) Redo #3: Tools, Thank you Craig's List

02-01-2013 04:19 PM by PASs | 2 comments »

Thought I’d try this tool gloat as a blog entry. i’ve had the Powermatic 3520b for a few months now (gotta blog that.) I knew when I got the 3520 that there was only one place in the garage for it…under the 14 inch I beam that runs from the front to t...

Kitchen Cabinets #2: Progress on a Friday Evening

01-26-2013 01:54 AM by HRLou | 0 comments »

I don’t take the time during the week for shop therapy, priorities being what they are and all. But my work schedule includes Four-Hour Fridays, so I can get an earlier start on my therapy for the weekend. Last weekend I got my lumber rack close to finished. I’m a little worried about undertaking the cabinet project, and I’ve been procrastinating a little, but also looking for ways to hone the skills I think I’ll need before cutting into the wood we’ve selec...
