Making progress - Making connections

08-06-2013 07:50 AM by JustaLilJoinery | 4 comments »

Hi all, I’m Jyl.I’m obviously new here and appreciate anyone who decides it is worthy of your time to read.I am a lover of wood, building, being creative and all things small. I came back to creating with wood (and other materials) because of a health issue. I’ve found that many other hobby-workers have also had this experience so you might notice that I mention it here and there. I will certainly try to not come off as a whiner but please understand as you get to know ...

Spindle Lighting

07-29-2013 12:12 PM by Henri Monnier | 3 comments »

This ‘thing’ about getting really good light near and around the spindle on my CNC table has been a real PITA for me. I have tried various ideas from the web, and other places. Many worked reasonably well, but each had factors, shadows, etc., that I did not like. I think finally I have arrived at a very good solution that works like a champ, is easy to install, and the price is right! I have a “Kent’s” dust shoe on the base of the router (love that shoe!) but ...

Aimed at those new to saw sharpening, this instructional video is 2 1/4 hours long and covers the theory, the tools and the practice of sharpening western saws. You get to look over my shoulder as I sharpen four saws – two backsaws and two hand saws. I’ll explain the saw sharpening process and how you apply it to different scenarios. I really hope you find it useful. As to the production quality, I’ve done the best I could. I had to record it outside, so there is a bi...

Routing #1: An old and faithful friend - my router table

05-26-2013 02:04 PM by BritBoxmaker | 6 comments »

I’d like to introduce the router/table combination that I use for all my projects. Its about 600 mm square x 1000 mm high. It also doubles up as an extension for my workbench (left in the picture). The top is MDF (oiled). It has front and rear slots for sliding fences and a mitre fence. Underneath the the top is this An ancient Hitachi M12, 1/2” router that I was given, many moons ago, propped up on a Leyland Mini car jack (height adjuster). My bit collection, adjust...

Roubo Inspired Bench #2: Enjoying the winter months with my Beech!

05-25-2013 02:45 PM by jusfine | 2 comments »

I have extended the length of the base to make room for more drawers, and also the length of the top to 96” instead of the WW planned 87” since my material was 10’ long and there seemed to be thought at the time that it would be better suited for what I do… After a lot of planing and thicknessing (those pieces are really awkward and heavy after awhile) I was ready to start with the glue-ups of the top sections. Most of the beech pieces I had were between 6&#...
