My recent battle with the cheap electric chainsaw, and subsequent redesign of my 36” crosscut saw’s handle have seen several people recommending I rive my huge logs with a simple wedge and sledgehammer system. I’d seen it done before, but had always thought the splits were messy – not an issue if I’m just making some turning blanks. Hi LumberJocks, Im back from the flee market with another bag of goodies. I’ll post the price I paid with each pic.
transition plane 5$, corner clamps 3$ each, buffing compound 1$ each.
dovetail saw 2$, chisel $.25
Two small block planes 2$ each, general brand scribe 3$, caliper $.25
the planes need a little cleaning but ive already used the block planes and they work well. Ill be back later with more finds.

Now I have a pair of tongs and a pair of spurtles right next to the stove. Why do I seem to be making my own tools in pairs?
At least I think I’ll get more use out of the tongs than the (so far unused) spurtles. At least they were educational when I was learning how to turn them!
I won’t stop at two tongs though. I have a pair of whisk style tongs with plastic handles that have broken. I should be able to epoxy the business end of the tool into a matching oak handle. The...

I’ve had this cordless dewalt set for several years, and in the last year It has been stored most of the time. I have 3 18v batteries that would rotate between the tools, so I would always have a fresh battery to swap with… until recently – all 3 batteries died, don’t hold a charge – and in the last week won’t even charge at all … AAARRRGGGGHHH….

About 10 or 11, I got my first “real” job. My grandfather had an auction house. All types of strange and wonderful objects passed through there. Lots of strange and wonderful people found their way their too. I was always on the end of a sofa or moving a box. I did a mans work…well kinda. Zagreb has a huge flea market in the wastelands on the edge of town out by the garbage mountain !I love flea markets, and this one is one of the best. There is all sorts of new products, from clothes to tools and everything in between, along with a second hand car market plus a massive section of second hand goods. Last night when I was just about ‘done’ with stuff at somewhere around 10pm, I was picking around this site. I noticed that many of you had maps on your home pages which showed exactly where you lived.
