OK guys – you don’t hear much from me because I am swamped with work. This takes me away from blogging and from sharing with woodworkers.
So one of the things that it detrimentally impacted is my schedule to build a Shaker Bench for Charity. To compound my schedule dilemma I thought the auction was Saturday night and turns out it is Friday night.
This morning I throw a Tweet out there asking where are all the woodworkers that want to help me just for free, just for the exper...

I ran into a situation where my clamping needs exceeded my clamp capacities. I did a quick video to share my solution because it might help someone else in their shop.
This video is “quick & dirty” because I wanted to try recording it on my iPhone. I don’t see myself doing that again, but the information is still good and clear.
I hope you find it helpful.

As woodworkers we also need to cut metal once in a while. Also, having the ability to cut metal will allow us to create custom handles as I have on past projects.
The question is how do we get a clean cut? Hacksaw? Reciprocating saw?
Nope – portaband is the answer.
The portaband is a powerful, smooth cutting portable bandsaw and a tool that I recommend for any custom woodworkding shop.
Hope you enjoy!

I just finished up the video for applying edge banding to melamine. This video follows Part 1 on how to get clean cuts in melamine, which can be quite a challenge without the right blade and techniques. Once the melamine is cut, often it will need to have edge banding applied. So I cover this topic in Part 2.
I could have made a 2 minute video that shows me applying a piece with an iron and trimming the excess, but that can leave a person with a lot of questions.
In these videos, you no...

De’ja’ vu
Last year I built a Shaker Bench for one of our favorite local charities. I was not going to make the deadline and Brian Havens flew out at a moment’s notice to help me build & deliver the bench just in time to be fashionably late rather than just late. (See blog entry here at LJ.)
This year I started my project a couple of weeks early but things did not go as smoothly as I would have liked on the project nor my schedule. As a professional contractor my s...

This was posted this earlier on my blog The Folding Rule Show. The video highlights construction details of The Cooper House and some of Todd’s furniture.
I just had the distinct pleasure of a cyber visit with Todd Clippinger, a talented designer and craftsman. I met Todd through one of the woodworking forums . . . well, the best woodworking forum; Lumberjocks.com! A first for me last night, but typical of Todd’s many talents and chara...

It Just Won’t Stop!
I tore out some double doors at the end of the shop that I never use, I need the wall space to hang my clamps.
I figure that since I started doing this little reorganization I might as well finish it. I usually bite things off a couple days at a time and then wish that I had finished or done more. There never seems to be a convenient time to interrupt my work schedule for improving shop conditions, but the payoff is always big when it comes to improved work fl...

Hey guys!
As usual, the summer season is the busiest for my remodeling work and it takes me away from my passion of sharing with the woodworking community. But I will take what I can get so the good news is that I am still at it.
The latest issue of WOOD Magazine has just hit the bookstores and mailboxes and I was lucky enough to get a full page of coverage! The article gives tips from 4 small pro shops and mine was one of the shops covered.
While there is a lot more wisdom and exper...

I posted this in the review section as well. But I felt the video offers a lot of context on how I use the Dust Deputy as a professional, what tools I use it with, and how I have it set up. This is a lot of good information to consider if you are thinking of getting one.
You can see my Dust Deputy review here.
