How I Sell My Woodworking Projects

08-01-2014 01:48 PM by Todd A. Clippinger | 20 comments »

In this video I answer one of the most common questions that I get from woodworkers: How do I sell my woodworking projects? In this video I share how I sell my work, but since this is just one point of view, I also interviewed 3 other woodworkers and I will release what they share in the next videos that follow. Even though we are all woodworkers, we all build different things and have different experiences in selling our items. This will provide a lot more information and inspiration t...

Demystifying Door Construction

07-20-2014 04:52 PM by Todd A. Clippinger | 34 comments »

Constructing passage doors can seem intimidating. In this video I share with you how I built a custom door and demystify the process of door construction. One of the ideas that I really want to impress on everybody is this: Don’t be intimidated by new projects. When approaching a new project, most of the woodworking actions needed for it, you have done on other projects. By recognizing this, you create the mindset you need to build something that seems intimidating such as a door. I hop...

Poppin' Fresh Vacuum Press

03-07-2012 10:35 PM by Todd A. Clippinger | 19 comments »

I Just Had To Share The Excitement! I was getting ready to pull a project out of the vacuum press and I decided this would be the perfect time to shoot a test video for my new audio equipment. Besides that, popping the vacuum press open is one of my favorite moments in the shop – and now you get to share in it! In this video, I do not get specifically into the step-by-step of bent lamination and using the vacuum press, but it is highly informative. You will get to see the actual m...

Video Review Of Dust Deputy

03-30-2013 04:39 PM by Todd A. Clippinger | 9 comments »

I posted this in the review section as well. But I felt the video offers a lot of context on how I use the Dust Deputy as a professional, what tools I use it with, and how I have it set up. This is a lot of good information to consider if you are thinking of getting one. You can see my Dust Deputy review here. Your friend in the shop- Todd A. Cutting Metal in the Woodshop

03-19-2012 01:17 AM by Todd A. Clippinger | 20 comments »

As woodworkers we also need to cut metal once in a while. Also, having the ability to cut metal will allow us to create custom handles as I have on past projects. The question is how do we get a clean cut? Hacksaw? Reciprocating saw? Nope – portaband is the answer. The portaband is a powerful, smooth cutting portable bandsaw and a tool that I recommend for any custom woodworkding shop. Hope you enjoy! Your friend in the shop- Todd A. Melamine Part 2: Apply Edge Banding

01-30-2013 04:20 AM by Todd A. Clippinger | 16 comments »

I just finished up the video for applying edge banding to melamine. This video follows Part 1 on how to get clean cuts in melamine, which can be quite a challenge without the right blade and techniques. Once the melamine is cut, often it will need to have edge banding applied. So I cover this topic in Part 2. I could have made a 2 minute video that shows me applying a piece with an iron and trimming the excess, but that can leave a person with a lot of questions. In these videos, you no...

Bookcase For Charity

06-25-2012 12:40 AM by Todd A. Clippinger | 19 comments »

De’ja’ vu Last year I built a Shaker Bench for one of our favorite local charities. I was not going to make the deadline and Brian Havens flew out at a moment’s notice to help me build & deliver the bench just in time to be fashionably late rather than just late. (See blog entry here at LJ.) This year I started my project a couple of weeks early but things did not go as smoothly as I would have liked on the project nor my schedule. As a professional contractor my s...

American Craftsman Workshop Video Returns

01-28-2012 11:00 PM by Todd A. Clippinger | 59 comments »

The Journey It’s been a lot of work to get to this point. Since taking a beating from the recession, I took all of the work I could get to recover over the last couple of years. Between working projects out of my shop, working with another contractor, and Rita opening a cafe in downtown Billings, there was not any free time to get out any blogs let alone video. I have been chomping at the bit to get back to sharing with the woodworking community. Sharing the craft with others has ...

The New ACW Site is Up & Running

03-07-2013 04:08 PM by Todd A. Clippinger | 11 comments »

I am officially set up now on my new website platform. There are new features and better functionality that I can see will help me to connect with the woodworkers to better share my experience and knowledge. THE BAD NEWS IS… Sadly, my workshop gallery is down for the moment. The new template was incompatible with previous gallery, so I will have to completely repost the shop tour. I know by the website stats, the workshop tour is the most popular feature and the pictures are dow...
