If you’re a fan of Sketchup for creating woodworking models, then the next obvious step is to use Sketchup to help you create cutlists and layouts. Sketchup plugin Cutlist 4.1 does just that. CutList 4.1 sketchup plugin helps you determine how much of each material you need to produce your design, taking into account nominal sized lumber with allowances for finishing to final size. Then it goes one further and lays out all of the pieces on boards or sheet good sizes of your choosing. Th...

Yes I was careless and in a hurry and had been up since 2:30am and had just taken the guard off two days ago to rip some 3” stock and failed to put it back on the tablesaw.. I was pushing through a piece of Purpleheart and reached over the piece to pull it on through and it pulled my right hand into the blade. I lost the end of my right ring finger, and it took a good bite out of my middle finger. It”s about 8:30am and my wife is trying to get hold of a hand surgeon because It als...

I am working on both tutorials for a couple of reasons, to correct many areas that were unclear and to add in all the fixes I made in the comments sections. Some of the pictures I used were no longer showing up due to a glitch on the website I had them stored at and the tutorial made little sense without them. So I decided the text needed redoing also. I am very busy right now, but hope to get around to it soon.Stay tuned.Andy

Maybe “LOVE” is a strong word. But I’m really excited about the final version of the show, and I think most people will feel the same way.
Forget about everything we experimented with before. This is all new. It’s been over a year in development, and And I’d like to think it is a pretty unique format! Here’s how it works…
The show is designed to have the feel of a single camera “reality” type show. It is meant to be a glimpse into our workshop as if you were just stopping in...

I’ve had a fancy for a thicknessing sander but a 10-20 inch model costs the equivalent of $1000 US over here and there’s no way I can justify that sort of spending so I looked into making one of my own. There’s no shortage of help to be had on the world-wide-web. The links I found useful include:
Dominic’s Woodshop
Kawika Ukulele Sander
Ray Lanham Woodcentral
Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery
Mother earth
The Woodshop
Art Herrick
Luthiers’ Friend
Nick’s drum S...

SPECSTimeframe: Nov 2011Wood Used: None. This is a concept.Galoot Index (GI): That’s the point of this post, namely, identifying a consistent set of indicators that reflect degree of handtool use in a project on LJs.Cost: $0
NARRATIVEI’ve done a number of project postings on LJs and included a fictional, totally subjective numeric index meant to reflect my use of handtools vs. stationary routers, tablesaw jigs, etc. With the posting of my Six Board Chest (27 Nov 2011) came a few requests f...
