The other day I was driving home and noticed a neighbor had cut back a tree and had some limbs at the curb. I see this fairy often and very rarely stop to grab anything in it’s raw state. I have a very limited space and have no means to resaw limbs into planks/boards. Stump cutting #1: Prunus avium

At the garden I dug old stump of Prunus avium. I was there for some years. Summer is here so I decided to divide it to half parts. My friend helped me with sawing by crosscut saw (little blunt). It was very hard work. But after some hours very beautiful timbers shows. I grinded it and soaked with water. You ca see it’s little stained by fungi.

movie on cutting a ipe hardwood log in a Bolivian mill with a 7" wide bandsaw

the principle is a wagon (brand Schiffer) which goes up and down on a rail and the bandsaw (brand Langer) is in a fixed position. For entire mill to operate like this you need 26 employees. MORE wood you say… but of course… can’t have too much wood… After turning my first pen, I became interested in pen blanks… went to see Trevor… he had told me that they were cutting some New Guinea Rosewood BURL… Also picked up some Huon Pine, Rose She-Oak, Dorrel [native Olive], Camphor, Tiger Myrtle and some Gutta Percha.. 72 degrees in my head, All the time

Okay so it wasn’t 72 degrees, but it was close. Early March and a 60degree plus day in Rochester, NY, you want to be outside. SO I was. I squared up a round log.Video Log Overview I used my Logosol Timber Jig and a 2×6 rail I built (seen here). Close Up 1 Close Up 2 So now with my circular saw and a hand saw I plan on cutting this 8×8 down to 4×6’s and trying to make sawhorses. BTW: Can anyone name the movie this entry is quoting?

Not being able to cut up local wildwoods has been a real missing piece of my woodworking puzzle. Just recently I found a nearby Bandsawmill and now I’m like a kid at Christmas cadging local woods from my local area and having them sawn. All of the wood I have found and cut is deadfall and windfall. This includes a 30” diameter 6 foot section of Pecan from a neighbors field. The tree was blown over last spring and I cut the upper parts for my wood stove and barbecue smoker. Wh...

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that I would be making a visit to my church friend’s lumberyard. Here’s an update: This friend of mine is having her warehouse guy look for all the lumber I need from rejected timber. Now I’m not sure what causes something to be rejected. I suppose export-grade stuff would have to be pretty good, so maybe rejected wood is still okay. As long as the wood is straight and not rotten, it should work for a bench, right?
