Ok, so I have been out of the shop for over a week now. Of all things, I caught a cold this time of the year. The aches, pains, coughing, etc have made it impossible and dangerous to work in the shop. So, I have sat around all day watching dvd’s and playing video games. I was not even well enough to read the Lumberjocks web site. I know I have missed much, but will be catching up in the next few weeks. While still under the weather, I will try a few hours in the shop today.
Jus...

Had a slight mishap today when I went to mill the legs down so they'd be the proper width after applying a "veneer" edge, I accidentally cut all the pieces! I should have left the those at the final width, I got a little carried away.
A little creative thinking and milling a few more pieces out of the remaining door stock, and I'll have legs that will ultimately be a mere 3/16ths skinnier, but and I'm able to proceed using only this reclaimed door lumber. I've thought the inspiration ...

Today I cut & fitted the shelves. Dry assembled the whole table.
Now I’ve got a lot of sanding, & pegging to do. This should keep me busy for awhile.

The last couple of days, I’ve been working on the tabletop. I mortised out the breadboards, & cut the tenons.
I kind of fell for the cloud lift theme, so I incorporated into the top. You might want to call this a sideways cloud lift.
I decided to try something from the latest issue of Fine Woodworking, They call it draw bored pegging on the breadboards. This is something I’ve never tried before, so we’ll see what happens.
Check out my latest Video, hope you ...

The whole reason I joined Lumberjocks was because I wanted to get some information about the Thorsen Table Challenge. After spending countless hours here I decided I better at least attempt a table.
SWMBO said that I could only build a table if the wood choice matched the bedroom furniture (The Wife’s Dresser). So sorry Obi, but it is going to be made out of pine. I decided to add some Cedar for a contrasting wood
Just to do something different I went with a brick laid patt...

One of my first ideas for this challenge was to make a “green” table – as in recycled, not painted. After weeks of pondering, and ultimately ignoring the problem of where to begin, and more importantly, what to use, I remembered that I had this door sitting in my shed.
It may have been original to the house, but has been collecting dust for the past 5 or so years since we bought the house and replaced the exterior doors – this one had dog door cut out of it and was ...

Here are a couple tables I made this morning – without glue or any mechanical fasteners! (or any milling or cutting, just used some mahogany I had on hand…
coming soon.... the real work in progress!

My Walnut board was 6 3/4” wide, but it was dished a little, so I ripped it in half, & joined it in 4 sections for the top, I also glued some Ash to the edges.
The Top clamped up.Now I have to go out, & start with the breadboard ends for the Tabletop.
This is one of the Shelves, using my new Irwin Clamps

Ever since the challenge began my mind has been going back and forth, and back and forth again, between design ideas. I haven’t even made the first cut, and this project has already been loads of fun. I bet I’ve done 50 sketches if I’ve done one. I’m talking about hand sketches here…. no Sketchup for me yet. It’s difficult for me not to bring my ideas to life in AutoCad while I’m sitting in front of my monitor at work for 8 hours a day, but I don&...
