I decided not to hold my cards to close to my chest, as Scott mentioned.
I decided to show what I’ve been doing the last couple of days.
I couldn’t resist doing some chiseling on this table. That’s the reason I did a downward cloud lift on the aprons, in order to fit in a carving.
One down, three to go.
This is about 4 hours of chiseling. A little more touching up, & it’ll ready for the finish.

I’m not sure I will be able to finish by the May 31 deadline – but I’m plugging along.
I wanted to combine the project with gifts for two different weddings this summer. I opted to make them from Black Walnut, with a “Rodel” kind of look. I think Walnut is regal on it’s own, so I tried several methods to add the detail shown in the original design and ended up going with inlay of the same wood. I think it adds a complementary, but still subtle detail.
I book matc...

I wanted to show the jig that I used for making the Thorsen Greene & Greene table Aprons.
The plans in Popular Woodworking had a cutout on each of the aprons. Different patterns on the sides and the front and back.
I took the plans and printed them on my printer but each of the boxes were suppose to be 1” square and they were small. So I took the printout to Staples and had them copy them at 125% increase. I ended up with 1” squares. I then glued the paper on some ½” particle board ...

I completed my draw bored pegging of the breadboards yesterday, with success. Then I applied one coat of wipe on Poly .
I’m very pleased with the outcome.

Today I tried making pegs for the false shallow holes. I had alot of trouble doing it the way the plan instructed.
I would get chip out when carving the facets on the plugs. I’m using Walnut, maybe Ebony wouldn’t do this because it’s more dense.
So I setup my disk sander miter to 30 degrees, & sanded my 3/8” stock to a point. Then I cut to the hole depth, & tapped them in with hammer with a dab of glue. Here’s a short video of how I used my disk san...

Progress is definitely being made. I used my new Router Mortising Jig and cut the mortises on the legs and stretchers. The new jig worked far better than I had expected. Woohoo! The plans don’t tell you everything to expect so when I did the first dry fit of the legs and aprons I found that some of the tenons did not properly fit. The mortises were 7/8” deep and the tenons were ¾”. Naturally, if the mortises are in the center of a 1 ¼” leg then the tenons would not fit all the way. I h...

I was going to draw bore peg the breadboard to the top today, but I had to do some fixing instead.I made the tenons the same length as the plan showed, they should have been longer, so there wasn’t enough material. I was afraid of the peg holes breaking out.
You should have about 3/8”, & I only had 1/4”.
To remedy this I epoxied some nails across the ends similar to the torsion bar on a guitar neck .
After I was all done I thought I could have glued in a wooden...

Ok, ok, ok.
I have seen all your beautiful beautiful tables. So, now I have been shamed that I have not made one, I am officially joining the challenge.
I had a slab of beautiful oak that would be just the size for four table legs and another 3/4” piece that would be great for the aprons.
Last weekend I cut the legs and planned them to size and marked all the legs to accept a mortise.
I cut the aprons to size and made the tenons. I still have not established the design...
