Ok, Here’s the deal. Its 12:35pm. My daughter has a doctors appt at 3:45. I have procrastinated my challenge project to the point that I had to abandon my idealistic goal of glueless wedge tenons. I do reserve the right to rechallenge myself at a later date on that joint. I will get it done! The legs are clamped up and nearly dry
Here's the top. Pocket holes have replaced wedge tenons...Yes, I'm in a hurry.
The sides are small, but mighty!

I am going to cut it very close on this. If I didn’t have to work tomorrow I’d be fine, but I do have to work. I expect it’ll be 9 or 10pm before I get pictures posted – and it’s possible the finish will still be wet!
This project has pushed me and has brought out the perfectionist in me. I cut the legs twice – because I wasn’t happy with the mortises on the first set. And given the opportunity I might recut a couple of the other parts as well....

The Thorsen House Side Table project is finally finished.
The goal of this Challenge was to motivate new expression of the traditional table and to find other ways to interpret the work. I have benefited from this challenge by enhancing my knowledge of the Greene & Greene style. I have read more about their work in the last few months than I have over the past ten years.
I found other ways to incorporate the Greene & Greene style in my interpretation and perspective of the Tho...

I should have made a paper template of the parts for this table (actual size). Until I finally cut everything down to size I didn't really see how small this table really was, and with the off cuts I have lying around (had I been more careful early on) I could have made a pair of tables!
Lesson learned there. Oddly I did this with my first box in order to figure out my cut list (and how to best maximize a tiny piece of cherry I used for it. If only I remembered.
Anyhow, I'm feeling ...

In my blog I started to talk about my next set of Thorsen Greene and Greene Tables. I called them my Twins.. The blog talked about my use of Holly wood and Popular wood to make the set of twins. Both woods in their normal state are quite light. Holly as being classified as the whitest of woods and Popular as an Ivory color for sapwood and usually a light green tint in the heart wood.
Here are pictures of normal Holly and Popular The Holly is in the left and the Popular on the right of t...

I now have 3 apron panels completed, so here are some pics of the progress. Things aren’t getting done as fast as I wish, but I have to take care of some spring yard chores, or else we’ll never get out to our cabin this summer.
That’s the trials, and tribulations of having two places to live.
Working on Hummingbird panel. There will be two Hummers, & two Roses.
It got warm enough, so I was able to carve outside.
I got some help from the neighbor cat.

Had a few unexpected hours to myself this afternoon – turned that into some useful shop time – and got one step closer to having that old door look a little more like a table!
I put the big glueup block o’ leg onto the tablesaw and attempted to cut them down nice and square – with as thin a veneer left as possible. The seperating was easy, the fine tuning also went better than expected, just a slow and careful process.
I should have made 5 legs, as I messed u...
